If you turn off the kill switch first, the bike will shut down. If you turn off the ignition switch first, the bike will shut down. Nope! No difference!

I modified my kill switch with a coil lanyard, just in case I fall off.

Most people look for the green light , then turn it off with the ignition switch.
the procedure in the manual is about liability, not damaging the bike.
The bike won't start in gear unless the clutch is pulled in so I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I used the ignition at the end of a ride once, then the bike yelled, "you're doing it wrong!" I thought it was my wife yelling.

I would think if you use the the run/stop switch you won't ended up locking your front end in an emergency if you happened to turn it that way.

No one ever seems to have a problem with doing it either way. Lots of people never touch the rocker switch and just use the main switch.
Yeah that's what I do. No such thing as a dumb questions unless you ask after you've already screwed things up and shoulda asked before you did it

I shut down the bike with the ignition switch and someone told me that you can do damage to the electrical system but I don't believe him.

Thanks
either way is fine. just don't do it by coming to a complete stop, holding the front brake, downshift into first, and pop the clutch.

well, there is a neutral safety switch on the 2007 and up models. and it will only start in gear if you have the clutch pulled in. a neutral only start would be less safe. if you stall it in an intersection, you are a sitting duck while your sitting there going back and forth from 2 to 1....

Do a search on shutting off your motorcycle?

Jeezus, Joseph and Mother Mary....just reach up and turn that great big switch in the center of the handlebars. It'll shut down sure as cow $hit splats when it hits the dirt.

Either way.

In MSF we teach the run switch, because as mentioned earlier, it's about keeping hands on the handlebar "just in case".

You won't hurt your bike using the key/ignition switch.
