I have a 12 RGC, and I just swapped the OEM exhaust for a 2010 SG 2:1 decatted header with a Rush Muffler. Sounds great.. deep and throaty, but not obnoxiously loud. I feel a SotP increase in TQ no question. Is it mental? I don't care!
Oh yeah, I got the headpipe off of a forum member for $125 and the muffler off of eBay for $57. Yup, 2:1 w/muffler for $182 bucks!!! Made my purchase of a new PV tuner easy to justify!!!
As for the "look", I am coming from a Softail, so I am used to pipes only being on one side.. Bagger, Schmagger... I had bags on my Fatboy. I am after sound/performance, not in that order.
Just too obvious. If you want looks it's PROBABLY the tru duals. If you want a little more power it would be the 2/1. I don't think it's a substantial enough gait for going a 2 into 1 and I think the tru duals look better. It is all up to the beholder so go with what you think looks the best and that will make you the happiest. Oh...I have tru duals.
Riding on the highway I don't think you'll feel the differance between 2-1 or 2-1-2 or true duals. Somehow I don't think anyone is going to care if they look at your bike and only see a 2-1 on a bagger. And with same bikes riding down the highway one with a true dual and one with a 2-1 I don't think the 2-1 bike is going to blow away the dual bike.
Go with what you like the looks of and what you can afford.
I like the sound of my true duals when the bikes sitting still idling, Ive heard my buddies 2-1 and its just not the sound or look I prefer. I needed more power, i added cams. Grew out of that power now I'm going bigger juggs, ported heads and maybe ported throttle body. Even if thats not enough power I don't think I would change to a 2-1. I'd rather have the looks and dual sound over a couple more hp and tq.
Thats me though.
I have the V&H Power duals.. Which gives you the 2:1... but then those header break back off in to duals.. and I have capped those with the D&D Fat cats..
Sounds good when getting on it... nice DEEP rumble while cruising.. SO.. you get 2:1:2.. which should match any power of a 2:1...
I also have a Stage 2 with SE 255E cams..
I'd rather have the looks and dual sound over a couple more hp and tq.
Thats me though.
Loved the sound of my TDs, but 15% more ft lbs of torque with my 2-1, on top of around 80 or so, is not a couple! I was amazed at the improvement. However each to their own.
I just changed from a V&H Propipe to V&H Dresser Duals and 4'' Twin Slash Rounds. I had the bike dyno tuned both times and the tunes are almost exactly the same. I am also running a SE AC and SE Super Tuner. I can't tell of any power loss and the bike sounds so much better. I am very happy I made the change.
