Angry 2007 Ultra Performance Upgrade Help

Okay, brand new to this forum, but glad to be here.

I have a 2007 Ultra Classic which is completely stock. I love the low to mid range power of the bike, however when cruising 70-75 miles an hour the power is just not there, especially if there is a head wind! I slipped on (2 weeks ago) some V&H Older version of the wide ovals after talking with some people that said this would increase the performance without the need for the complete Stage 1 Kit. Well, still lacking in the performance of the bike. So I have been doing some research as to what would give me the best bang for my hard earned dollars. This is what I came up with:

Khrome Werks True Dual header; Khrome Werks HP-Lite slip on; Arlen Ness Big Sucker intake; and of course the flash of the ECM.

Does anyone run this same set-up? Is there a better way to increase the performance of the motor keeping the HP/TQ curve through 4000 RPM. I know that cams and other modifications would give me more but would like to keep that possibly for another time. Just looking for some HP/TQ improvement so that when the hills come up, or a head wind is blowing I am not struggling to maintain 75 MPH on the freeway!

Thanks for the input!

I would make contact with Fuelmoto, a site sponsor here. IMHO they have better options than what you have picked. The dealer flash doesn't do much.

AN BigSucker is an awesome AF, but your EFI and AF is where ya need a little help and Jamie and the rest of the crew at Fuel Moto will work with you on a level you will appreciate and not try to sell ya all kinds of stuff ya don't need. Any of the Power Comander products will treat you well and the guys over there will load it with the map for ya. Hope this helps

I have an 07 also. The gearing kinda sucks on the 07-08 models. SE255 cams, a Stage 1 & PC-V made all the difference in the world to around 4,500 RPM.

PS Welcome to the Fourms!

You might also consider going to a 68T rear pulley. I did it on my 07 Ultra and it gave a nice fairly cheap performance gain.

You know how opinions are but here is mine. I think bang for your buck would be cam selection by the time you add up all the other thing you could cure your problem with cams.

your bang and mine may be different

Big Sucker is about $120 on ebay from eastern PC.

keep the stock headers, they are good to over 100 HP, put on your slip ons. ( there are performance trade offs with true dual headers)

at this point just by opening up flow in and out of the motor you will gain 7 to 10 horsepower.

you will likely need tuning compensation. some use power commanders, some get the ECM flashed at the dealer and there are other devices.

I use nightrider.com XIEDS- about $100 for your bike.

This puts you at under $250.

2.) don't be afraid to down shift. it is not uncommon to run over 4000 rpms, and do so if you are fighting a hill or headwinds...on your bike 5th gear 80 MPH is only 3800 rpms

the more weight, the bigger the head on profile ( big windscreen , a catalog full of deflectors etc.) the more power to push the bike.

the 75 mph ( 3000 rpms) you talk about having no power, that is just below the power band for the bike...this is why some riders suggest changing the rear pulley to a 68 T...I myself would prefer the 66 T overdrive and downshift when needed

07 SG here ... keep your slip-ons, add the Ness BS filter & get a tuneable EFI tuner because the stock AFR is really lean & the ECM DL doesnt cut it. I run the PCB III unit and it works just fine... there are multiple EFI options available. By getting the EFI tuner, no matter what motor mods you do in the future, it can be remapped to compensate. Also... a good dyno tune is a good bet.

I appreciate all the input from you guys. I actually e-mailed Jamie at Fuel Moto to get some tuning options and ask somewhat of the same question I asked here. To my suprise I received an e-mail within about 30 minutes! Brian from Fuel Moto mentioned some of the same things that everyone here is mentioning. I will definately do the intake as that seems to be a big help in what I want to accomplish. I thought about doing the cam but wanted to give the Stage 1 a try before doing some internal work. So what I gather is use the stock head pipe, buy a tuner, good intake, and some slip on's and we should be good. I know that opinions are out there about who is the best for this application, but what are some good combinations that wouldn't be extremely loud when cruising, look good, and have the best performance?

Cams being probably my next upgrade, I have heard about the SE 255 and the Andrews 21 would keep the HP/TQ to 4500 or so. Are there pros and cons to using these types?
