Apes fell down again....LA Chopper 16" touring
The set-screw idea isn't that great. The bar tubing isn't very thick, so the screw face isn't really going to bite into anything substantial. The downside of all of this, is that the knurls are being deteriorated, every time the bars slip. This is going to sound crazy at first, but listen up...
It's a touring bike, I assume? And if the clamp is hidden by the inner-fairing/cap, then make a match-mark on the bars and the top-clamp. Disassemble the bars and the clamp, and realign the match-marks. You can add some spot-welds to fuse the bars/clamp. Of course, you have to apply some common sense to the repair, by making sure wires are unaffected, etc. I'm also assuming the clamp isn't chrome. This repair isn't for every application, but it could work in the right situation
Some folks will disagree with this, but I can understand why. I wouldn't do this in a situation where the clamp area is exposed. But it's really no big deal, because at worst case... the clamp would have to be replaced if you ever decided to change the bars, etc.
But the reality is, those bars falling in your lap, could kill you.
