Y'all that have switched out seats, how do you like them. I'm a big guy, 6'3 270lb with a big butt to be blunt. Wife is not fat but not a runway model either. I need a good seat for two up riding on long trips for my Road King. High quality materials & comfort what I'm looking for. Thanks.
Give these guys a try, worked for me http://www.meancitycycles.com/
They do custom seat work at a great price.
The base price for my 2011 Road King was $605 but I paid extra for the heavy duty package, which it sounds like you need, too.
You have to send them pictures of yourself and your wife sitting on the bike along with height/weight info. Then they build a seat to your specific requirements.
When we got ours, they included a note saying it needed 500-1000 miles to be broken in but both my wife and I felt it was the best seat we'd ridden on right out of the box.
I have had just about all the seats made for touring in the last 10 yrs,I ride about 18,000 miles a year on my road glides on long exended trips ave about 350-450 miles a day. Here is what I have to say about the ones I have used, air zepplin from hd is a great seat that you can set up as you ride and your comfort level changes, air hawk pad is one of the best but its kinda a hassle to keep up with and it will sit you up different in the seat, danny gray with air hawk built in is right up there with the hd air zepplin and the dg looks better! mustangs are ok for day to day riding and look good but i dont like them for long trips, corbin is the best quaility and look good and will work on long trips but dont have the abiltiy like the air seats to adjust for long trips,hd hamock seat is 1 of my favorites for all around riding . On the long trips I add a impact gel pad with the cover that lets your butt breathe and it is not to thick to change the way you sit and it stays on the seat better thank the air hawk. On the extended trips I find that after my butt gets used to the time in the seat I dont need the gel pad after 3-4 days. I also have used a sheep skin and that helps also and wont change the way you set in the seat.I also use pure talc powder unsented and sprinkle a little into my jeans every day on extend trips to help with monkey butt, it helps to keep your butt dry and more comfortable.
Mustang Super Touring moves you back 1.75" and I think the riders portion is 17" but would have to double check that. Very comfortable, needs less break in them some. I am 6-2 and 225 and have found it the best of all I have tried. Can do 500 miles days easily with the proper Under Armor under jeans and my sheepskin on the seat.
