Default Clutch Dragging - HD Diamondback Cable

2012 Street Glide - I replaced the stock clutch cable with a HD Diamondback cable. I also replaced my handlebars with Wild 1 504 and needed a 2" longer cable. I adjusted the clutch according to the service manual (tighten the adjustment screw until it bottoms out and back off 1/2 turn, then adjust the cable at the handlebars until there is a 1/8" freeplay). The problem is the bike runs fine for about 40-50 miles, then the clutch starts dragging. I readjusted it, but it happened again. I took it to the dealer, the head mechanic looked at it, said the cable feels "soft" (not sure what that means), adjusted the clutch himself and said if it happens again, the cable might need to be replaced.

Anyone heard of anything like this before? Any suggestions of what I could try? Can a clutch cable be bad from the beginning?

Thanks!

Youre not supposed to bottom out the screw than back out. its until lightly seated than back out, youre in too far and the clutch is dragging. The spec is 1/16-1/8" for cable play.

By bottoming out I meant "lightly seated". I do not tighten it until the pressure plate is lifted off the clutch. Even if I did that, I would imagine that I would have clutch slippage, not dragging. And like I said, once the adjustment is done, it runs fine for a few dozen miles, then it starts dragging.

When you buy a replacement clutch cable always ask for the stock 3 1/2" pull or it will mess with adjustments. If you got one longer you can get these shims from Barnett to shim it up 1/2"
It fits in here:'

Or you can send the one you've got back and get the right pull, but that's a PITA.

Did you overfill the oil? That will cause a drag and make it hard to find neutral. I replaced some oem cables with Barnets and they had an issue where the cable was too long. A way to tell is if the cable adjuster is way out almost to the end of the threaded area.

I don't believe I overfilled the primary case, but I will check. This is a Harley Davidson cable, so I assume the cable pull should be correct, but I will check also.
