Glad ya'll are de-bunking the OP since I recently picked up a 07 EGU. I had asked around about if there was anything to watch out for and was only told to check the transmission for extra noise. But even that could be fixed with IDS. Mine doesn't have IDS but it just sounds like a Harley to me anyway. Maybe the OP got a Monday or Friday build. Which brings the question, is there a way to tell from the VIN what day of the week your bike was built? Could be interesting.
Wow - sounds like you got a bad build. Front fork damper valves installed upside down? Yikes!
My buddy has a 2007 Road King and he also had an issue with the compensator sprocket and the rear head pipe. Other than that it's just been normal maintenance for him.....
What the hell is a scissored flywheel ? A flywheel on a HD ? I haven't had any problems with my 07. Every year I look at and ride the new bikes but still can't seem to part with my trusty 07 Road King.
Your bike has 2 flywheels on it. That is what makes the crankshaft. It is a weak component and is only bolted together. It can scissor.
I think the 2008 bikes are not much better. I am not a big fan of mine.
Love my 07. Rear head pipe just cracked. Giving it the Fullsac treatment which means it will never happen again. This has been an issue on Harley's for years and was only corrected when the new chassis came out in 09. Have 25,000 miles on mine and no other issues. Tires and fluid changes is all I've ever done.
Maybe I'm partial but my 07 has been a strong runner from day one!! Yes I've changed the head pipe that cracked, of course didn't notice till I was doing my fullsac swap. Belt picked up a rock and I had to replace, but that can happen to any year bike... Anything mechanical runs the risk of something going wrong, some get lucky and never have problems, some seem to be plagued... luck of the draw... Even the 09's and up have issues... I'll be keeping my loyal 07 SG for many years, even if she were to somehow let me down in life.... fix her and keep riding....
My '07 just rolled over 57K and no major issues at all..........normal maintenance only and actually its one of the most dependable I have ever had. So maybe the OP had a bad experience with HIS '07 but I dont think that his experience is indicative of all the '07 Touring models.
The 07 crankshafts have a bad reputation, and maybe deservedly so. I've seen first hand the results of a scissored crank in a 07 motor that was in a friend's shop for a rebuild, and just last week, another friend pointed me at a 07 Road King that didn't make it back from Sturgis, due to a grenaded motor. I tried to buy that one, but I looks like the owner is just going to keep it and have a crate motor installed. I don't know for sure the crank was the culprit, but it sure looks that way. That's just two bikes that I've run across, on the forums you'd think it was a common problem with the 07 bikes, but it's not. It might be more likely in a 07 than in other years, but it's still fairly uncommon.
