I just bought a CVO Road King. Here's why.....

You can't take the money with you. But I'm thinking if I kick the bucket I'm going to have a big BBQ set up and I'm going to have them Prop me up on my Road King with my back to the crowd so it looks like I'm riding off. Then I'm going to have a sign made that says. "I wanted to have one last BBQ before I ride off for good ".

Yes a CVO cost 15,000 more but if you go to get rid of it you get a lot of your money back. I figure if a regular road king and a CVO both loose 5,000 then we paid the same thing to ride the same miles but I was on a nicer bike.

Its been about 5 years since the last CVO Road King came out. I'm not taking the chance to wait another 5.

I loved the paint on the red CVO that I got. Next year even if they come out again I may not then I'll be mad for not going for it.

I can afford it. Nobody in my house is starving.

This. I've seen it the other way around though (myself included, because considering what I've spent secondarily, I could have paid for the CVO)...

I'm thinking about that new CVO RK. Congrats on the bike. The colors look amazing, looking forward to seeing them at the dealer, especially the Anniversary model, how well does that windshield work? I have a 29" inseam and wonder how I will fit on that bike, I must admit I prefer the feeling off sitting "in" a bike rather than "on" top of a bike. Would enjoy any comments about your new RK.

Thanks,

Mike

Then you still have to add motor work on top of that. That's a TON of extra jake. They do hold their value better though just based on the pricing I'm seeing. $3-4K more? The choice is easy. When your talking $15K that's a LOT of money regardless if you have it or not.
precisely!!

Furthermore, after riding a strong 107" with headwork the stock bikes, CVO or not, aren't cutting it. The CVO will require at minimum, headwork and cams (~2K doing the work yourself). Then pray the crank holds.

The RKC allows more budget in the motor build and I can drop ~$10K on a SOLID 117" (includes tuner, exhaust, welded crank etc) and still have an extra $5k for chrome ****. Never get my money out of either but one has a lot less initial investment and I can guarantee the RKC would be more fun.

I have the money to do either or I'm just undecided which way to go. The motor head in me says f@(k it and build the motor but the money guy in me says go with the CVO since they hold their value a bit better.

This would be a lot easier if Harley would just put 130HP motors in these things.

If you're financially stable, and can swing it get what you want..
I have to agree, CVO's do hold their value and you only live once.

i'lll tell ya what you could do..CHANGE THOSE BARS !... i rode one of these bikes yesterday and the bars felt like i was holding a pair of hedge clippers....way to narrow and the wrist angle was way too cocked.

Hey, its definitely NOT about the money. Who out there HAS to have a HD motorcycle? We all want one, or more. To me to CVO or not depends on if your passion is buy it and ride, or buy it, ride it and customize it along the way. I have close to $33K in my 06 RKC including the out the door new cost and have had a blast since day 1, customizing it to suit me...
