Fuel Question
I posted this in the fuel forum too but figured it would get more traffic here. The closest fuel to me is 87 octane do I need to add a octane booster, get my ecu remapped or all of the above. I just bought a 05 Road King Custom and don`t want to ride to town every time I need fuel, I live 30 miles from 91 octane fuel. On the up side the gas I do have available is ethanol free.

I just got home from a trip around lake Superior and had a few run ins with 87 or 89 only and used both with NO TROUBLES at all. Both were also ethanol free. I would now and then when ya make it to town, fill it with the higher octane and see if ya can tell any difference. If ya get lots of pinging and such with the lower levels, then ya might need to boost it a little, but i doubt it. Hope this helps

You shouldn't need a re-map for now depending how it runs with the 87. If you do get some pinging which I can't blieve you wouldn't in the weather your in, I'd see if Sea Foam would take care if it, otherwise you'll need a remap with a little timming retarded. Octane boosters are snake oil.
I've been out in that part of the U.S. and 30 miles is " just down the road a bit".....lol.

Just spent 3 weeks touring Newfoundland. MANY places only had 87 octane. There were times I put 3 or 4 tanks of regular through the bike before I found premium 91 octane. Two up and pulling a trailer. Never once did I experience pinging. Seemed to me to run the same as it does on premium gas. I've kept track of every drop of fuel I put in the tank since new in 2010. Regular fuel showed no apparent difference in fuel economy - different days had different terrain and riding conditions so its hard to say for sure. My bike is a stock 2010 Ultra. Engine/transmission/exhaust changes could give completely different results.
