Default Lowering two touring bikes - without stripping front end?

Hi folks, I've searched but haven't really found what I was looking for.

98 FLHP and a 99 Ultra Classic.

Rears I'm going with Progressive 412, front I'm looking at Progressive drop ins.

Now, the question... can these be done with removing the caps, loosening the pinch bolts and sliding the front end down or out INTACT? Or is stripping the wheel, fender, brakes, etc. a must?

Thanks for the input.

If you go to their website, Progressive publish instruction sheets for their products, so you can see what you are letting yourself in for!

I'll look again, the download instructions and vids don't go into detail about what CAN be done:

Per the instructions in a an authorized shop manual remove the forks from the motorcycle. This will entail removing the wheel, fender, and possibly several other items depending on the model - again, refer to an authorized shop manual for the removal of these components.

Yes, have to remove forks...very easy though. Then remove caps, remove springs, drop in new springs....done. I would change the fluid also...

Do you have to strip them down, or can they drop out as an assembly with the fender, axle, etc. still bolted together?

I tried to do it the second time because I didn't drop it down low enough and wanted to cut the spacers more. I couldn't pull it off. I determined it was more of a pain in the *** trying to keep it all together instead of pulling the whole damn thing apart again, so I sucked it up and did it again with the fork tubes removed. Your call man....

You're going to have to separate everything anyways, so just take the front end apart instead of trying to remove the frontend in one unit.

I don't think you can do it as an assemble. You have to get to the hex head screws that are located on the underside of the forks.

You obviously haven't taken a dresser front end apart before! All together that lot weighs a great deal, and simply manhandling a heavy awkward shape would be a challenge, let alone threading the fork legs back up through the trees. Have the good grace to accept that the only practical way to do what you want is to dismantle the lot! If you don't have one get yourself a factory service manual before you start work, as Progressive themselves recommend.
