That's a low 10 with a #170# rider but still slow. We would see Busa's run high 8's in the 1/4 at our local drag strip in NC. Hell I watched a guy run a mid 9 second 1/4 mile riding a wheelie the whole way. Now that was impressive.

all yall naysayin pro-rice talkers, especially that 900 buck bucket-o-crap....bring one of em here to Ft Worth....i got an education for ya
A guy who used to work for me had a 900CC Kawasaki crotch rocket with a header and electric shift. Watched the 300+ pound rider make 10.50 sec 1/4 mile passes all day long in high 80 deg weather and 75% humidity with no wheelie bar. His bike ate its fair share of v-twins.
I love to mess with the crotch rockets at the stop lights. 9 times outa 10 it's some punk *** kid that tries to get the hole shot and he can't keep his front end on the ground. 9 times out of 10, I win street light to street light.
Some of you none believers if you ever get the chance need to go and watch some drag races. Every year They have the S&S Motorcycle drags in North Eastern Iowa. Street legal HD V-twins racing crotch rockets giving them a run for their money. The Rice rockets get smoked off the line just about everytime. They have to play catch up down the 1/4 mile drag stip. If it was a 1/8 mile race, the V-twins would win all day long.
yep...i know there is no street legal ricer that will bust me on an 1/8th for two reasons....i can ride...my bike makes and uses lots of power...once the big rice winds up or if the rider is savvy off the line, they'll win...no big...but i sure aint got no powered up pig either....some of yall should stick to your doo-dads and whatever the moco line is, you dont understand and probly wont ever understand
Thanks for the replies. I was just curious as to the reasoning that each person used to make a decision to go really Big on the HP side. I know each does it for different reasons and just like some that dont do it at all.
And ... for those that used the timeless HD phrase of " If you have to ask, You wouldnt understand" ... well, because of this posting, it may seem to apply to me, but it doesnt.
Ive had my share of Hot Rods too...and in my Shop days, built several big inch strokers and very fast Crotch Rockets , like a Turbo Hayabusa and an almoststock YZF-R1 that went 172 mph at Bonneville w/ a female rider.
You should see some of the personal emails I got... Some were rather nasty, LOL
Like I said, I was just curious to peoples reasoning for going for Big HP...thats all

I guess some folks are either blow hards or just have thin skin, thats the only reason I could figure they sent you nasty emails. Myself I take it for what it is, a type written word nothing more nothing less.
I'd love to see some ET slips from some of these bad assed bikes. I've found what seems real quick on the street gives one a reality check when measured with a timer. It would be interesting to see just how much power it takes to get a rolling brick down at least into the highto mid 10's.
A streetable Glide in the 10's with a 200 lb rider...ya right![sm=alcoholic.gif]
AHDRA (All Harley Drag Racing Association) If you ever here about one of these races you need to go and watch. It will be worth the trip, Trust me.
Last year I went to Earlville, Iowa (Tri-State Raceway) on the last day they had a class anyone could enter for I think $50.00. It was Double elimination. Before the races all the entrants ride together in a 50 mile stop and go ride. The rules are very strick. The Motorclycle must start within one or two min after shut off. Then before each race you can only make minor adjustments to the carb/ Ignition/ PC. All the Bikes are street legal. The fastest Bagger I saw was Road King it ran 11.20 and it was smoken the tire half way down the track. The fastest run of the day was a Snowmobile low 9's.
First... no intention to PO anyone, I read this on every Forum I belong to...So, Im just curious about why
I often read where guys sink $5000-$10,000 or more in P&L in a motor, pipes andthen spend lots of Dyno time and effort tweeking it to end up with 110 inches , 110 HP+ and 120 TQ....or even higherwhich requires roller rockers, high compressions...etc.
But what Im curious about is....what is the pre-occupation with so much power that it strains the entire driveline and drains thepocketbook? Or, in the hands of a newbie rider thats caught up in the HP wars, more power than he can safely ride....Why isnt 90 HP and 100 TQ enough for riding ?
Reno HD just sold a 07 FLHX with a Jims 120 installed .. $34,000 out the door.
Ive owned 14 HDs over the years and neverowned a HD that had 100 HP ... I doubt my 07 will get there when Im done tinkering with it...
Not quite so fast Mr. RenoGide. [sm=imsorry.gif], but re-read your post above. You state that " it strains the entire drivetrain and drains the pocketbook" [sm=trust_me.gif]and you are curious. So it sure seemed to me that you didn't get understand[sm=confused06.gif]. And damn ifyoudidn't knowthe answer to your own question all along. Boy do I feel dumb now[sm=icon_beat.gif]. You sure had me fooled!!! I'll be more carefull whenI answer one of your tricky posts again.... And no I didn't e-mail him!!
Any big HP has to be streetable. That is precisely why big cubic inches is the way to go,for me anyway.I like that sleeper stock look.Themain benefit for me is the roll-on torque, and the incredible sound big cubic inch motors make.Once you get a taste of that big power, and it is obvious a lot of you alreadyknow what I am talking about, nothing else will do.The rest of you, should by No Means take it personal. It is, and always will be about being an individual. After all we are all bikers. My focus on big inch comes from Drag Racing.
