I will be adding 2 RF300x4 amps to my Limited. The first will power the fairing speakers in the batwing and I will be adding the CVO lower speaker boxes. The second amp will power the Tour Pak pods and later on I will add saddlebag lids.
Need some help deciding what brand/model speakers to go with. I kinda like the idea of using marine certified speakers in case I get caught in the rain. Another thing I am concerned about is I work a midnight shift and there are times I come out in the morning after work and there is a lot of condensation on the bike. Would hate for that to ruin them. The only thing I don't like about the marine certified speakers is they seem to have lower wattage than the PBR300x4 puts out per channel.
I would have liked to have gone with the Polk MM651's, but they are 2.7 ohm speakers and the amp isn't rated for anything less than 4 ohm. I thought about running them off the PBR300x2, but when you paralell them it drops the load below 2 ohm.
I'm trying to get these same questions answered. I've revamped my speakers. I'm running two Rockford PBR300x4 amps. I'm running Rockford t165s in my two fairing factory location, two more Rockford t165s in my inner fairing, and two Polk dxi650s in the lower fairing. My dilemma is what to run in the tourpak. Can't seem to find a 4 ohm speaker that will fit in the stock location and marine certified.
I just added the same set up with the RF 300x4 and put the R.F t-165 in the fairing with some JBL tweeters in the mirror holes. For such a simple little system this thing sounds insane.
So what I am trying to say is go with R.F its a proven match!!!
I too am really not liking this. RF is known for making high power, underrated amps, that can run at 1 ohm, or even .5 ohms. So I ran the full range of emotions when I found out they have a bike amp and then that it only operates at a wussy 4ohms.
For me, RF in the fairing and Kicker in bags. The kickers I'm putting in the bags actually spec out and sounded better than the RF i considered for that location.
