Buying a 07 Street Glide HELP!!
So it hindsight I wish I had waited and saved the money and put it towards something more. I like the Python sound and the bike runs like a dream, so I'm not set on something else, just got the winter itch to touch the bike.
I have heard that K&N fiilters might not be the best choice. K&N designs filters for racing, where it will be cleaned often and not exposed to road use. Maybe look into another brand, like Amsoil I hear makes a good filter. They are spendy, but then, what isn't worth it for our bikes!
Ok...So I'm going to fill you all in on this EFI Tuning issue. First off, the PCIII is a wonderful piece of equipment when it's working. It's a "piggyback" component that basically (to keep things short) tricks you bike's ecm into thinking that it needs to deliver a different fuel mixture at the given throttle position. Being a "piggyback" system, you are actually plugging in a component to the motorcycle. These types of units can save you a couple hundred dollars up front, maybe more if you install your own and don't dyno tune the bike to have it tuned to perfection, but traditionally, they will leave you sitting on the side of the road or have you running like crap when they clunk out on you. I've heard that the PCIII is supposed to be much better than the II, but our dealership has removed more faulty PC's than we've installed! The SERT, on the other hand, is a software package where you're never adding a part to the motorcycle. You're simply reprogramming your factory ECM to adapt to the parts that you've added. Your EFI is a very PRECISE system. Getting it close could still be far enough out of wack to burn a hole in a piston. If you are not a motorcycle mechanic runningthe bike on the dyno, you should NOT be tuning your own motorcycle. You're spending $19,000, spend the extra few hundered to be sure that you have the longevity you want and a part that is historically reliable...the SERT! Also, remember that not everyH-D shop has used PCIII's andif you break down at their dealership, you're going to have a mechanic guessing...EVERY H-D SHOP USESSERT...AND USES IT OFTEN! As for exhaust, it's really up to you. The difference between the best and worst performing exhaust is really rather minimal as long as they flow better than the stock exhaust while still keeping some backpressure. We've dyno'd a lot of exhaust and Rhineharts run great, Rush are pretty embarrassing, V&H are always impressive...Just go with what you like the sound of best. Your dealer should have some bikes with pipes installed so you can listen. And now for the A/C kit. This is extremely important!!! You will have to do one hell of an engine (more than 120 cu. in.) to need something that flows better than the screamin eagle a/c pn 29440-99D for $139.95 before discount at your local dealer. As far as waiting to install your pipes...do whatever you want. Sometimes it's fun to feel the increased performance and really appreciate your exhaust, also some people are not comfy with redlining a brand new engine. I would do it right out of the gate, but I don't have the time to let my motorcycle sit at the dealership in the summer...I'm too busy riding it! Good luck with your motorcycle purchase...I think your salesman is trying to push you to purchase now, myself, but hey...just a guess! Bottom line...ENJOY!! PM with any ?'s...
P.S. Anyone wanna buy a 2000 Fatboy carb w/5700 ,iles onit and a few add ons? Dealer says 10,800 on trade somewhere in 13,500 if I hold on to it and sell in a couple months.
