I was at a local stealer last weekend and saw one of the guys from our Sturgis group. I was in the hospital this year so didn't get to go.
He has an 09 CVO RG, and earlier this summer his extended warranty popped for a new motor. He was out to CA earlier this year and noticed some "noise". He noticed the noise at about 38K.
They pulled it in the shop back home here, and upon inspection, ended up replacing everything but the case 1/2's.
His valve guides were shot, valves, pistons, connecting rods, crank, and flywheel were all bad (bent). The culprit was carbon. I guess it had built up so bad components were able to contact one another and with enough time, heat, and contact, eventually she did a slow self destruct.
I know from the 1st time I had met him, and we went out west, he wasn't impressed with the gearing of the bike (compared to others he has owned), which may have helped attribute to it. If it was based purely on "babying" it or not I do not know, or ?
I know my last 2 have been taken to red line ocassionally, and my new one will as well now more than ever, just because..............
