Looks like something else to watch out for when I'm working on the bike. Thanks PhilM. Maybe I should splurge for a pair of those adjuster blocks while the bike is down for cams.
I have seen pics and read discussions of broken swingarms in these forums. I know my 07 Ultra definitlly has a "beefed up" swingarm compared to earlier years. This was surley done by the MoCofor some reason.
WTF so the belt was fine before you took it in {preventive maintence} and the New one broke ? Hmmmmmmmmmm
No, I broke one at 36,000 miles...the crack wasn't noted, but I used to put a little poly lube on the sides to keep it quiet in the winter....anyway, that could have contributed to the original belt breaking....the new belt broke Sunday after a ride....
Update: I went to the shop and spoke with the mechanic and the service manager. They showed me the swing arm and the crack is very similar to the photo in the thread referenced above (thanks for the link, btw).
The Service Department is being very helpful and they are making things right pricewise. I'll have everything double checked later on.
Yes. The early models has a different swingarm and there were issues with them breaking!
The beefed up the design starting in 2003.
If you search this site, you'll see others have posted on this in the past.
You may still have dealer issues, but there truely was an issue with the swingarms.
Phil is correct. But the problem I see here is that if it was in for new rubber and a belt, they should have noticed a cracked or broken swing arm at that time, it is very visible when this happens. I have a 2000 so I inspect mine regularly. Once again, you would think this would warrent a recall. Oh well, so much for rider safty, and customer satisfaction.
Holy Sh_ _.I have two machines that are developing 2 and 3 times more hp than stock. Both swing arms are easy to get to.Will definetly get to the bottom of this! Thanks for the ALERT!!!!!!
although I got no dog in this hunt or helpfulfeedback, I feel compelled to express my admiration for the restraint displayed byDAWG_6. By waiting until the dust settles and the final outcome was/is known, you have displayedan extraordinary degree of discretion by not divulging the identity of rouge dealer from the outset.
a class act. wish I couldkeep my mouth/fingers under such tight control. you da Man!!!
