Next step Stage II, big bore...with Mikuni 42 HSR Flatside Carb. I insatlled the Mikunit 42 on a Road Star I had and that carb made a noticiable Differnce over the stock CV.
Thanks for the comments.
That'll do it! The Mikuni all by itself boosts torque. Leave the heads stock for increased exhaust velocity with the big bore, so you'll get even more torque. You'll love your cams then...
I've considered several upgrades and think I might wind up with your experience if I stop too far short. When its time for me I'll probably do a 120r or Jim's motor.
I had a set of Andrews 26A installed on my 01 FLHTC TC-88, Carb bike while I had my chain tensioners replaced. I do notice the bike starts more quickly and I like the rumble at ideal however, I really don't notice a big difference in power. I'm running a Jetted stock carb, Hi flow filter, and true duals. I assumed I would have noticed a bigger differnce....
Tru duals kill the bottom end................030 head gasket will help.
I added S&S 510G to my TC95 and at first i didnt notice much power gain at all. Was running jetted stock carb just like you and V&H short shots no baffles which also didnt help the power. Rode it like that for a few weeks then added a bigger carb, switched to a Mikuni HSR45 and ill tell you what i had power out the *** compared to before. I dont know how your andrews cam compares to the S&S but you might be in the same boat, the cam is allowing for your engine to draw more air and fuel but the carb just isnt feeding it enough and is choking it out. maybe trying a S&S carb or Mikuni will give you the power you seek.
Hope this helps

Stiggy's right. I've got the big bore, Mik 42, 26G's, and plenty of torque.
Ok, I got the Mikuni on the way. I talked to a couple local shops about the big bore install and most say, doing a big bore without head work, is a like a weight lifter running with a sock in his mouth! Head work adds an additional $1000 to the job! I'll try the Mikuni and a tune first and see if that wakes he up a bit. Then I will look into the BIG BORE 97" with screaming eagle ported heads. But I will have to save some for that.
I had the 26's in my 06 Dyna and they made a huge difference. You have to wonder if it has to do with the fact that yours is early and carbed. The later EFI motors that are choked by the epa probably respond better to cams than the earlier bikes.
