Default Radio problem/fix

My radio on the 07 Classic started acting up today would play fine then lose all audio, turn off and on and it works for a few minutes then off again. Have been reading that trying to fix the HK radio may not be the best way to go, who has had good luck with the Sony and Hawg Wired adapter kit. This sounds like a good way to go but there may be better so any and all advice will be welcome.

I just had the same problem, older bike though. Turns out one of the mounts in the fairing was broken and the shaking was causing a short. Fixed the mount, and I can't cause it to shut off anymore.

Have had a lot of shaking and was going to see if I had a broken mount -- maybe I'll get lucky

Just remember before you decide that anything with a wire in it can break, especially one with as much vibration as this one is exposed to. I swear by my H/K radio. I've had them on 3 bikes now with no problems to date.

There are a lot of good radios out there but they are all subject to break. If you get away from the H/K radio however, you lose the waterproof factor, which in my opinion is a big plus. I've been in some horrendous downpours and if I had had an aftermarket radio in the hole, it would have fried.

I also had to make this decision when I was having the audio cutting out issue. After a lot of thought and debate on aftermarket taking into account the pros and cons and realizing that the HK unit was not really the original start of the problem but caused by the breaking fairing brackets and the handle bar riser bolts being to tall and actually banging on the bottom of the radio causing the issue. I sent my unit to Iron Cross to have it repaired and while it's only been about four months so far so good. With their repair and the bracket fix kit I purchased along with the new riser bolts I'm certain my radio issues are behind me.

I'm not entirely clear on specifics but I just put in a Jensen waterproof radio into my dune cruiser. I know that I've gone through a few radios due to faulty wiring and not being hardened against the weather. But I think this one just might do the trick.

You'd have to find out if they have a compatible bike radio, but otherwise it seems like the way to go.

5 months out of warranty and now my 2010 Ultra is doing this exact same thing. Now, I have two problems. This, and the "Comm option not installed - see dealer" message whenever I hit the COM button. I was going to hold off on sending the radio in to Iron Cross until I got around to doing bars on the bike at the same time.

Looks like I'll be pulling the HK and sending it off sooner than I anticipated.

Radio keeps cutt'n out.

Do you have to change all four bolts on the handle bar riser or just the back 2?

I only replaced two. The hd part number is 12600003. You may also want to look at this thread as it shows the riser bolt location to be changed. The photos are on page 2.
