Time for a rear tire change on my scoot. I have the D402 original tire on it. I have heard you can go with a wider tire which i would like to do.
Question, Does anyone know the size designation for the next size up tire that will fit and any recommendations on dunlop vs. ??? brand. I really dont want to go to the stealer as I can get one far cheaper online and get it mounted for about $30.
In my neck of the woods.. I have been quoted from $233 to $500 for a back tire.. Yes, $500!!! [:@]
My stealers charge $30 for a tire off of the bike, and $60 (addtl) to take it off of a Ultra... Tires are about $130ish for a 402... And both JP and Dennis Kirk are higher on the tire itself..
I just got a quote last week for tires from my dealer. $493 for wide whitewalls (RK Classic) and $432 for blackwalls, Dunlop 402. This includes tires, tubes (I've got spoke wheels) and mounting & ballancing. Included is 1 hour per tire, $65.00/hr. These are the MT90 tires (130mm) the MU85 will fit on the back (140mm, I've got one on the back now. It's a tight fit).

Chris
I have no idea on the tube charge.. Those prices are for cast wheels... And yes, it's about an hour labor for each..
Don't tell anyone, but one place quoted $190 for the tire, and 2.5 hours labor for 1 tire.. And mounting was FREE!! Hmm.. $190 for tire.. $237 for labor.. ($95 *2.5).. And tax.. Total of somwhere around $500.. LOL NOT!
As for the other dealers.. Just called.. It's $133 for the tire.. (D402), $30 for mounting and $65 for labor... And 1 hour wait as long as it's early enough in the day..
I don't think I can do a tire.. [8D] Just don't want to murder my baby..

I can get a MU85 B16 delivered to my door for $110. i can pull the rear wheel and get the shop to change the tire an balance for $30. That sure seems a lot better than the prices you guys are getting.
If I had the stealer do it i am sure i could add at least another $65 to $80 on the deal for labore plus a bit for thier makrup on the tire. $100 in the pocket.
But does anyone know if there is a wide tire avalable than stock and what the number might be?
thx.
Ps i dont think they every kiss you, just like the ladies of the evening, once lips touch skin there is an emontional attachment and they would want to get all emotional an all.....

I was thinking of doing just this.. TC; HDWrench.. I'm a pretty good at turning bolts.. Any gotcha's about removing and re-installing the rear wheel on my Ultra???
Depends on your bike year. 04-05 you can run the Dunlop 402 in the 140 width MU85, BUT if your bike is older your stuck with the 130 in the Dunlop lineup (MU85 will rub the belt against the sidewall).
The Avon Venom can be run in the 140 as can the Metz ME880. The Avon grips like glue and handles better than any tire I have ever run on my RGlide, but it wears rather quickly. I had bad luck with the Metz, the sidewall cracked at the bonding seam. I think it was just a bad batch of tires, but check the sidewall if you decide this brand. The advantage is longer mileage before wearout. They don't grip as well as either the Dunlop or Venom in the wet. Conti also makes some nice tires, might be worth a look.
Oh yeah and the Venom rear tire compliments the Dunlop front tire nicely (nice to know info, lol)
Just an addendum to my earlier post re: mileage. She just turned 16k and I still have 3/32 left on the front and the same on the rear. I'll need new ones soon, that's why I got the quote last week. The rear has 15k on it, at the 1k service, when the dealer took it for the test ride the tech ran over a screw. I had them put the MU85 on(140) no charge. It does not rub. The best thing you can do for your tires is check the pressure. The dealer was astounded that I had that many miles on these tires.
