Default Hogtunes for Street Glide

I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my new 2012 Street Glide, and I'm thinking Hogtunes. I'm trying to decide on just the speakers or the speakers and power amp. Will the amp just give me more volume, or will it improve the sound quality too? Thanks!

Amplifiers primarily just increase or "amplify" the signal coming from the radio. In some cases if the amplifier has built in high pass and low pass filters that can be used to direct the higher frequencies to one set of speakers and the lower frequencies to other speakers. Some amps have a "bass boost" feature. However in a two speaker set up like on your Street Glide high and low pass filters wouldn't be of any benefit. For better sound quality, upgraded speakers will provide that. It is a matter of personal opinion which speakers provide the best quality as this is extremely subjective. I have used Hogtunes in my Streetglide since I bought it 6 years ago. Recently I upgraded my stereo system by adding on lower fairings with the Hogtunes 5 1/4" speaker pods and their 24.2 amp. What the amp did was improve the bass response from the speakers since the amp has a built in bass boost feature and of course increase the overall volume. Prior to that I was simply running a pair of Hogtunes speakers in the stock location powered by the radio alone and they were an improvement over the stock speakers. you can always start with the speakers only and if that doesn't satisfy your lkistening needs then add an amplifier later.
