i have a 2011 flhtc and 07 fxdse. i often think about having one but when i see them in the garage almost holding hands i can't bring myself to splitting them up. sometimes i think about the 3rd for a wild threesome. bmw 1000rr.
I couldn't decide between the ultra and the road king either.... I ended up with the road king with detachable faring, tour pack, and a second seat. If you like he lowers, they can be added as well. The RK dresses up pretty nice but it still retains the ability to strip down for a little fun. I still love the ultra but as long as I am only going to have one, a King it will be!
I had the same notion but gave in, no longer a RK owner and own a Road Glide, justifying two bikes for whatever reason I could not come to. Love the Roadie, loved riding the King too but spending many more hours on the new ride now that I have but one.
The Rk is a beautiful bike. I always liked that color scheme on the 08 CVO RK. If I had that bike, It'd be hard for me to sell the CVO. I guess it depends on how many long trips you take a year. Sell the UL and buy a detachable fairing with stereo, lowers, a tour pak for when you travel. I doubt you'll miss the limited that much. Probably save enough in insurance and personal property tax to pay for the add parts in a few years.
A problem I would love to have as well. Love my Ultra and can't imagine ever selling it. There is something to be said about the simplicity though.
The RK is the most versatile bike Harley makes. If I had it to do over, and knew I had the upfront money to customize, I just might buy an RK instead and add the batwing and lower fairings.
It'd be pretty cool to have an RK with batwing AND a Fugly. Kindof the best of all worlds. Three different bikes taking up 2 spots in the garage. Still think it's ugly but that Fugly is growing on me.
EDIT: Course now that I think about it, I have two buddies with RK's. They both bought Batwings for their RK's. Pretty sure neither of them have taken the batwing off since they added it. Guess that says keep the Ultra.
I found out the hard way that I wasn't a fairing guy. Traded my 11 Limited in on a new 11 RKC about a year ago. Haven't looked back. For me the fairing takes a lot away from the riding experience.
