Default Stage one vs stage two

I hear alot of chatter about stage 1 mod or stage 2 mod. does anyone have some real dyno numbers from before and after. So far, I have only seen copy and paste from advertisement claims. I would like to hear from someone in the saddle about your experience with helping the HOG to breathe.

Regards,

I don't have any dyno numbers for you but I have a seat of the pants report. I moved from a 2007 softail deluxe to my 2010 street glide and after a test drive on the stocker I almost didn't buy it, what a dog!! I did the 103" big bore kit with stage two which included the se255 cams that I had done to the softail and the difference was night and day. The low and mid-range torque of those cams made this an extremely enjoyable ride. The cams are the big difference between the stage I and stage II and are certainly worth it IMHO.

Just look in the Screamin Eagle catalog. There are lots of factory dyno sheets. I trust those for caparisons.

Stage I is nothing more than putting the engine back to where the engineers designed it to be before the EPA choked half the life out of them. (Free flow Air Cleaner, exhaust and proper fuel ratio.)

Stage II (with bigger pistons and more compression and the cams to feed it,) when added to the Stage I package is a true performance upgrade.

My old Stage II 95" puts out 85 HP and 95 ft/lbs TQ, the same as a Stage I 110" CVO, for example.

Stage I is just the ground floor IMO.

Stiggy.
So when I get my RK home.
I am going to do pipes and a new breather but if I want to do a stage two would I just be doing cams?
I dont want to go bigger bore with the 103, just make her breath better and then cams, am I missing anything else that would help?
What would be the next big bore kit for a 103? 110?

Stage one vs stage two-41xdpr77nnl._ss400_.jpg

The guy I bought from already put a big sucka air breather and de-catted his vance and hines and also has the stock pipes if I want them.

I plan to go with True dual Reinhardt pipes ceramic black and I want to use a spike air breather if I can find some info on them as far as letting in the most air, especially over the big sucka.

I like the look for the black spike, it has the pointed arrow look facing forward and will be black and red to go with my bike.
I know for looks I really want to get one but I have yet to determine if it will allow enough airflow to justify taking off the big sucka.
It loos to me that it is facing forward in the wind and is partly open, very similair to the screamin eagle just pointier and enclosed.
Anyone have any experience with this type breather I posted?
I think it looks great but I want it to perform as well or I will find something else

Stage II is a big bore and the cams, built on top of your Stage I, ( doesn't matter whose high flow Air Cleaner or pipes...that's handled in the final tuning.)

Stage I with cams is just that, (significant difference over stock but not nearly as much.)

As I recall: 88/96 motors use 3.75" pistons. 95/103 use 3.87" pistons and 103/110 use 4.00" pistons, and displacement depends on 4.00" stroke, ( 06 and earlier) vs 4.38" stroke (07 to present.) of the crank.

Which of these will allow more air to flow freely into the motor?
To my the open K&N one looks like it might take in more air, but I just love the look for the spike and it matches my color motiff, lol

Ok so your saying I can do a stage 1 and add cams, and call it a day and not mess with the 103 I have right?

I am not looking for ultimate performance but I want to get her breathing better and maybe enhance the low end power some.
I am going to do chain tensioners for piece of mind, and hopefully find a cam that will show slight gains in various rpms.

So I would forgo the big bore part of the stage two for now and see what the stage 1 with cams will produce.

GREENDRAGON,

You did a stage 2 with your 103?
Did you do anything other than the cams?
Did you go big bore or leave it at 103?
