I'm not worried about cost with my guy- he does me right- has for almost 30 years. So that being the case, worth it? And what do you mean by "prep"? Sanding, etc?

Sanding and some filler was needed to get them to look good. I have total confidence in my painter as well, this is the second complete bike he has done for me, but my point is, if it's going to cost you the same in the end, what would you rather have, money on the initial part or labor in the prep work, you have to decide if it is worth it or not.
You would have to ask him about the cover, but my opinion is I don't like the covers. Not that I think the quality is not there, I just don't like the look.
Years ago I had a stretched fender on a bike, and it was a cover, looked great, but it was just that, a fender that was a cover that went over the original FX fender. I don't care for the wide look.
If I was going to go with a stretched fender, I would go Klockworks or FBI.
I wouldn't put anything from Fairinf Factory on my bike, if it was free. Poor quality control, poor customer service, poor fitment, inconsistent from one pair to the next, poor construction and poor materials.
There's a very obvious reson they are the cheapest on the market. Stay away. You don't have to spend a fortune, there's several good manufacturers out there.
