Default Elf amp overheating?

Recently (two times) after about 2 hours in 100+ degree temperatures, my Elf amp (I think it's the 2125X) quit for the rest of the day. Could this be from the heat? (Elf doesn't answer their support phone and my email to them came back undelivered.) It's mounted on top of the radio on my Electra Glide Classic. Thanks in advance for any opinions and tips.

Power amps need circulation to cool them, and all buttoned up in a fairing on 100+ degree days is probably not proper operating temperatures.

Saddling an amplifier up next to the high heat producing radio can't help the issue at all.

Perhaps there is a "cooler" designed for computers that may be adapted to cool your stereo and amp?

Did you try power it off and back on to see if you could reset it? Odds are it's a thermal sensor overload and has to cool to reset.

Even just an air space between the radio and the amp could make a difference.

Your lucky it only does it during excessive heat. Some systems just heat up from prolonged use and shut down. And some never come back on.

I am in no way an expert on electronics. One thing I found is that my amp was shutting off and the problem was my ground. I ended up "scraping the frame" with a flat head screw driver where the ground connected. It solved it immediately.

I have my RF amp on top of my radio and after my fix above, all things are good. In fact, I did 2800 miles in 10 days in average temps of 115 and never a problem. Hope this helps.
