Just got the 180 Amer,Elite on the rear of my 09 ultra, one word would describe the performance of this tire ''AWSOME'' What a great tire cant wait to get the oem front off and get the matching front one.feels like your on a rail in the curves sure footed super value at 177$ cannot be beat! Wasnt sure about loosing the white wall,it looks bad ***,used a black marker and blacked out the front one looks great!!!
So what is the difference between the AE and the factory Dunlops. Is it just the whitewall, and the stupid HD on the tire? The reason I ask is I'm in need of a new back tire. I got 11k out of it,but I wonder if the AE would wear better, and last longer. Sucks that if you want to match the whitewall on the front, you have to go through the dealer.

Different tread pattern and seems to ride softer. Wow only 11k from your back tire! I got 20,500 and still had not hit the center wear bar and I ride two up a lot.

Tell me about it! I have never had a touring tire go this quick. I maybe ride 2up 10% of the time if that. The only thing that sucks about the AE is no whitewall. If I was replacing front and back,it wouldn't be an issue. I just hate having the ww on the front and a blackwall on the back.
When ever I read these "new tire" threads I'm very suspicious of the reported performance improvements. Granted some tires are better than others for different conditions, but what are you guys comparing to? Do you remember exactly how your bike handled 10 or 20 thousand miles ago when your "old" tires were new? I know I don't, except that it was a lot better than today. Any new tire you put on your bike is going to feel worlds better than the POS worn out tread it's replacing.
When somebody changes tires often enough to compare "new" to "new" then I will be more inclined to listen to the performance claims and opinions. Until then, you got yourself a new tire... of course it feels better than what you had.

I agree I would not want to have one white wall and one black wall. My front tire was cupped so bad that I was glad to replace it. I am hopping that the AE does not have the cupping issue.
According to Dunlop, their American Elite tires are the same carcass and compound as their OEM D407 (rears) and D408 (front) tires. Both tires are made in their Buffalo, New York plant. The only difference is the tread design is different and the Harley Davidson logo is not emblazoned on the side wall. If you got 25,000 miles out of the OEM tire you will get the same out of the American Elites. The sipes on the American Elites look very good.
