After literally months of busy weekends finally got the time to go for a nice ride along the coast. Warmed my bike up(which I do religiously) for app 10 min. Shut it down briefly to get dressed. Bike wouldn't start back up. Cranks and cranks but doesn't catch.
Did diag. test- 24 code which says coil.
Just my luck- first time in months where all 3 kids and wife are away.
How do I check if it is the coil? And if it's bad anyone have any recommendations(Accel, HD, ???)
Looks to be a simple swap out- if anyone can give some tips or help that would be great.
Meanwhile I'll sit in my empty house and get drunk.
Gonna try this again- the bike did start last night with no problems. Started up this morning and ran it for 10 min then shut off. She no start again.
Still throwing 24 code-coil.
Like everyone else money is kinda tight now so I can't afford a repair bill now. Switching the coil out doesn't seem like a hard job but what I'm looking for is any info. Are the aftermarkets better than the stock ones? Is there a big difference between the stock and aftermarket?
Any recommendations or help would be appreciated!
I've been riding Harleys since 1974 ('75 Sporty) and have owned a dozen or so and I've yet to have a bad coil.
However, if I had to buy one I see no reason not to buy an OEM coil.
And as a rule coils do "breakdown" when they get hot so stop messin' 'round and get that new coil so you can enjoy your bike.
