I'm using the OEM Harley headset with boom microphone in my open-face helmet on my 2011 Ultra Classic with the Harman Kardon radio.
It works great for the intercom & CB radio, but doesn't do very well when listening to music. I primarily listen to music from my iPhone, through the auxillary jack on the factory radio. The main problem is that the speakers can't handle much BASS and begin to distort.
I'd want to stay with a hard-wired headset, not blue-tooth.
I wear hearing aids, so ear buds are not an option.
Questions:
Can I simply cut & remove my current headset speakers from the harness and splice-in something like the Tork X-pro speakers?
Is it critical that whatever speakers I go with match the Impedence of the speakers on the factory headset? (I'm not sure what the factory specification is???)
Does someone offer a complete Hi-Fidelity headset for Harleys that will plug in to the existing 7 pin jacks?
Are there any other helmet speakers that you would recommend?
Space your speakers closer to your ears and the sound quality will increase tenfold. I can only turn my volume up to three bars, i would blow my eardrums before my speakers distort. Showed this trick to many. If you have a quarter inch gap it is WAY TOO MUCH. give it a try, you'll be surprised at the difference.

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually spaced my speakers out with some acoustic foam so that they are right against my ears. Volume isn't a problem, it's Frequency. In order to keep from getting distortion on some, but not all songs, I have to set the BASS on my radio to less than the 1/2 way mark, which means that I'm hearing primarily Treble.
I bought some MotoCom stereo helmet speakers at the local Honda shop. It has the 3.5mm plug like an I-pod and I plug it into the adapter shown in the link.
I use the X2 from IASUS. Great helmet speakers. With the seperate volume **** you just turn the iPod volume up and then adjust with the inline control. Great clarity even at speed.
If you have enough ear room in your helmet then you have lot options I have used Sony stereo head phone speakers from Best Buy and wired them to Harley head set best performance for $20. But now I use J&M Elite head set good sound and it never gets unplug from helmet like my Harley cable.
