Default 1991 Tour Glide Backrest Removal

For the life of me I can't seem to get the riders backrest off. I see there are 2 bars going down into the seat, but if you are supposed to pinch them together, you must have to have tiny hands and vice grip fingers. Am I doing something wrong? I feel like it's a Chinese puzzle to get the thing off.

Have you ever pulled your seat off? Pretty self explanatory.

Reach down into the cavity ( oohh ) and grasp the two rods that are attached to the backrest and squeeze them together while pushing to one side and you will/should feel it release then just pull it upward.

Ok, it took 2 of us to get it off, but I think it's a different style than what is typical. It did have the 2 bars, but they didn't have the tabs or a spring. There was a base bracket welded to them. The bars curve out towards the rear fender, and it just seems that it slips into the bracket mounted on the fender. Nothing really keeping it clipped in.
