So, PiedPiper

What was your favorite part?
Did you go north, Il, Sd, etc or south to tenn and texas, Arizona, etc..?

My new to me bike has cruise, I haven't driven it yet, I still have to go get it.

I never had cruise before so I am curious how that is going to be.

We plan to go along the great lakes to Chicago then a little north and west and come down into San fran from Reno and ride south to San Diego and come back through the south.

I cant wait to make the trip.

I have to decide on whether to have my wife ride or drive her own bike.

She used to follow me in the truck with her bike in the back because she doesnt drive as fast on the bike and hates the highway on it so I didnt want to turn a week of riding into 4 days of getting there.

But cross country I cant afford to do that so I have to get her riding more next season and see how she does and decide from there.

I want to go in 2014 either with her on the back or next to me, I Want her to drive her self but then I worry about anything happening to her on such a long trip, I dunno.
Anyway I would love to hear more about your adventure.

I have ridden different Harleys coast to coast several times, as well as border to border. Only one had cruise control. Last long trip was last summer on my current Road King Custom (no cruise control) for a 12K mile round trip from Texas to Alaska and the Arctic Circle. Never two up on these long rides. A Harley will take you anywhere you have the huevos and desire to go.

They thrive at 80 mph. After a day of this kind of riding, you will notice improved driveability and smoother idle. Take some sunblocker and lipp balm. Take warm clothes to allow layers of clothes, weather wil change 40+ degress in a few hours.

Good advice, I just got home from a mid-western trip (NV, AZ, NM, TX, CO, WY, MT, ID, and home again). After 4000 miles the bike was dirty but never even a hiccuped. 80ish the whole time and 14 days long over the Rocky's, in the heat, Rain, hail....etc. it went awesome, unless you count sunburn, wind burn, and gloves a little too thin in the thunderstorms.

And all this 2 up and loaded for bear. Great running bikes.

This is my first bike with cruise, and my first Harley for that matter! My longerst run on my metric was 4000 miles in 7 days. I had a throttle lock on there to give the right arm a rest now and then but really had no issues with it.

Now that I have mile eater I am really looking forward to a coastal run in 2014. Planning to take a 14 day tour from WI out to Cali and ride along the coast to the south. Head to New Mexico and then wander back towards home.

I've only had my Ultra since July, but I already ran at 80 mph plus through an entire tank of fuel, filled her up and did it again! Never a worry about the bike, pretty sure that's what it's made to do!

This year, I'm having my touring bike sent to laredo, Texas. Taking a bus from Torreon Mexico, currently very dangerous, where I live, to laredo in late june and rinding up to sturgis. I know that there will be nobody there, which is fine by me, but I will go from Sturgis to Bsoton. Park My bike in the craddle and then back to work. Yeh, I know, what people will say but; whatever! it is going to be a good trip! I ride my sporty everyday to work so, again, whatever!

Went coast to coast three times on my '88 FXR, first couple times rode an average of 750 miles a day, third trip had more time, still did 800+ miles a couple days. Zero bike problems first 2 times, including one marathon day of 1,300 miles in 26 hours, about half of which was in heavy rain. Mostly on the interstates first 2 trips. Third time the splines on the clutch basket stripped out in Tennessee. Bike had 120,000 miles on it then and about twice the horspower of stock, so I guess I can't complain. That trip my wife was with me, riding her '97 sportster. We covered 9,000 miles in six weeks.

Been coast to coast twice on my '00 Roadglide, did a couple 900+ mile days the first time, then mostly 250-300 mile days after that. 12,000 miles altogether in 8 weeks.

Second time cross-country on the Roadglide the longest day was about 500 miles, kept it to 250 - 300 miles a day mostly. That trip was right after I retired, so no hurry. We took the scenic route for four months, 95% on 2-lane backroads, rode west to east, then north to south, total 15,000 miles and 32 states in four months. That time my wife rode her '05 E-Glide. Zero problems with either bike.
