Default trans and engine oil trouble

I have a 1990 FLHTC that has the primary oil going in to the engine oil. I changed the fluids on the bike as we all do and rode. The next time I checked the oil it almost spilled out it was so full. So I took the derby cover off and it was empty. So I changed my fluids again, and the same thing happened again. Any ideas?

hmm,

try posting in the evo section.

1992 -ish cases had a porousity problem where the motor oil could seep through the motor cases into the primary...but not the other way around.

for the primary lube to get pulled into the motor there must be a problem with the seal at the crank on the left side of the motor.

or the bearing going or gone.

I had a 1990 lowrider. after about 25k the inner primary seal went. Same thing happened. There is a seal,or pressed bearing, that is around the shaft between the inner primary and engine. mine went and took the crank to. .I had to pull the whole primary
better to just dot the harley engine rebuild thing. i.m.o You get a warranty and a rebuilt motor

This happened to me on a 96 RK. Your crank seal is leaking. Easy fix.

Either the seal as others have stated, or the clamp that holds the leads from the stator. That clamp uses a couple of screws in the inner primary. The screw holes go all the way through, so if one of the screws has come loose the oil will be pulled into the crank & picked up with the engine oil. Either way you get to inspect the primary........

Thanks for the thoughts. I got to dig in to figure it out now. At least I have a few starting points now. I am curious cause I had the stater and rotor replaced at HD this spring?
