People have posted here before about the cigarette being wired backwards and USB not working until the poles were switched to their proper polarity. Apparently the cigarette lighter itself will work regardless of which way it's plugged in.

did that too, multiple times. i'll try it in my car and see if it works there
Check to see if you have voltage take a multimeter and put it on DC voltage then put one probe in the center of the cigarette lighter housing on thr bike and the other probe on the outside and see if you have any voltage. If you do make sure you are not getting negative voltage with the red lead in the middle. If you do you will have to switch the wires on the inside of the fairing. The USB connectors might have a polarity sensing diode that blew if the wires are backwards. As others have said check in another vehicle. Check your fuse again maybe he pinched a wire during the bar install
this might be your problem check out this site, i have this plug and it works good, but you might need to do the jumper wire, look at the notes on the pic's. it will tell the story. i don't need the jumper wire since my phone is not a smart phone, good luck.
So you had an Indy work on you r bike. Your lighter does not work. The first thing you think of is You heard on the internet that the lighter is not that great.
Wow how about the problem is your indy a usual.
It is not a an accessory plug it is a lighter They are slightly different in size your owners manual tells you that..
Indys are great screw up you ride then blame HD.
Never had any problems with any of mine.

haha, man, i'm not even blaming Harley. I will bring my bike back to have him figure out more things. i've just tried the google search first and asked here since i can do it at night in my own home, if it was just a plug or wire issue, no need to go back and have my bike gone for a few days. it could have been just been something easy. if I can't find it of course i'll bring it back and let him figure it out. i actually didn't mind getting another plug since i wanna throw one in the saddle bag. so we'll see.
but yeah, first thing in google was that sometimes when you run electronics devices from the stock cigarette lighters that things can get screwed up. most common solution was to buy the $20 kit with the deutsch connector and switch the unit in the fairing with that one.
even though this this isn't working right now, I am hardly upset about it. i'm just baffled that the cig lighter works and no matter how i switch the wires it doesn't allow me to power my phone.
thanks for all your replies guys. i'll try all the things I haven't yet before she goes back to surgery
forgot to mention, both of the usb plugs didn't work in the car either. now it's getting weird. i'll try my girlfriends car, maybe they did get damaged or are faulty units
Ok, let me see if I can get this all explained well.
Got my2012 SG about 10 weeks ago and from the start I plugged a USB port into the cigarette lighter and charged my phone.
Fast forward a few weeks, I just had my apes done and since then I only tried actually use the cigarette lighter since I left my lighter at home, didn't work, hmmm. Went to my Indy and found out that the fuse was blown, no big deal, new fuse, cigarette lighter works. But when I plug in my USB plug, it doesn't light up nor charge the phone. Bought another USB port, not working either. Read on Internet that the stock cigarette lighter isn't that great, so I bought that $20 version with the Deutsch plug, exchanged it today, not working either.
Found the acc switch plug, tried to connect it there, not working at all. Now I'm getting frustrated. I also purchased the cigarette lighter that plugs into a battery tender that's connected to the battery and its not working either, but what baffles me is that the cigarette lighter In the fairing gets hot. I tried a few different ways to connect cables and checked the fuses.
I'm out of ideas.
Anybody else had this happen? Any ideas of where I could look? Something must be wired wrong
Sounds like something is messed up with your lighter socket. On my 2010 sg I use the socket for my cell phone and when on the road, plug my xm radio into it. No problems. I did buy a $20 socket from hd to charge my cell phone in the saddlebag using the acc switch on the dash.

weird?? - sounds to me like you just found the problem....if the usb ports dont work in the car or bike - the usb port is the problem...no?
