Have one on mine....when I was single...used it all the time. Yanked the tour pack off, went with a solo seat...like the looks of it, only draw back missed my rear speakers (won't impact you). Now, my riding partner is with me 90% of the time and she loves the backrest of the tour pack...doesnt like the sissy bar and pad....so the pack hasn't left the bike in 5 months.
One other thing to keep in mind....quick detach also means quickly stolen. Depending upon where you ride and how long you spend away from the bike....if not a good area all the time....probably better for it to take 30 mins to remove....
I went with the detachable set up right out the door. Takes minutes to pt on take off and all your wiring fits under the seat when the pak is off. Love it.
Im putting on saddlebag fillers soon. If you want to go the filler route, have them install the lowest antenna relocation kit. Its goes down where the saddlebag connects to the fender. Just my 2 cents. Oh by the way, make sure they give you back all the old parts!
Good luck with your decision.
Mine came with the detachable tour pak, and I absolutely love it. I am constantly taking it off and putting it on. If I am riding alone, I leave it off unless I'm going somewhere that I need the storage space, which is rare. But my wife has taken at least short rides with me almost once a week all summer, and sometimes several times a week, and she needs the back seat on to feel comfortable. So for me, it's awesome because of that. I don't know how much I'd bother putting it on except for long trips if it weren't for her though.
I have the quick detachable docking system for my tour pack. I have the pack when on trips and when riding cold weather with added gear. Very convenient on & off. The only complaint with the quick detach system is that the plastic attachment bushings will wear in one spot and the tour pack will get rattly.
If you ride solo and decide to get the quick detach. Take the pack off to prevent wearing out the bushings.
Mine is off 90% of the time. I only use it with spouse on longer trips.
I also did not use the 'kit'. I bought what I needed piece meal (mostly used on this forum). I don't care for where the license plate is so didn't need that part. Used in fairing powered antennas so didn't need relocation kit for antenna, etc.
Also spliced wires under seat with Duetsch connectors. It literally takes me 5 minutes now to change seat and tour pak.
You can get an idea of the look in my sig pic and an old pic of the rear with plate moved.

If you ride with a helmet, you won't have a more convenient secure, dust free storage location for your helmet. I have the detachable arrangement and never use it anymore. TP stays on all the time. I'm too old to worry about "cool", I like convenience. Also had to lay out an additional $40+ for the locking cam to feel a bit more secure. The permanently mounted ones are even more secure with no extra outlay. The quick removal system is also prone to rattle.
I had the detachable hardware on my 07 UC. I never took it off, although I really like the looks without it. Seemed like I was always using the Tour Pack and couldn't bring myself to take it off. One thing I didn't like is that it rattled like crazy. When I traded for my 09, I didn't do the detachable thing again.

HogglyWoggly, both my '03 before adding the detachable hardware and my new '03 had the license plate barcket welded to the tour pack bracket which gets removed when you go detachable.
Where did you get your license plate bracket and did you flip your tailight lens to get the white light down?
