I drop my new Electra glide limited off for the 1000 mile service next week.
I plan to have several things done to it while it is there.
One thing I'm on the fence about is the detachable trunk up grade.
I think the bike looks better without the trunk but have read on here that most folks never take theirs off. I don't want to waste $400.00.
Any input from folks that have done it would be appreciated
I paid $1k for a removable tour pack rack, seat bar, seat pad, docking hardware, antenna relocation kit, and laydown license plate kit for my '03 when it was new, I purchased a new '12 limited this March and have not invested in the removalble hardware yet. I do like the look without the tour pack, I like the lower center of gravity with it removed, and really only put that tour pack on maybe 3 times a year for long hauls. Since I kept the '03 I just haven't wanted to spend another $1k to do it to the new Limited
Yes it's expensive but if you search around and be patient you can get it cheaper than that. One of the best mods I've done so far. It takes about 60 seconds from start to finish including the wiring for the antenna.
If you plan on taking it on an off all the time then do it. You will appreciate it trust me.
Having it detachable is all up to you.
It does look like a Street Glide when you take it off,
but they are just so convienent to use.
I put a Chopped Tour Pak on basicly during the winter, just because of using more Jackets, sweetshirts and Chaps.
But all summer I don't use it, to keep the cool factor going.
I'd ride it this winter and see just how much you use it.

Electra glide ultra looks like a streetglide but better with the tourpak off.
Use my tourpak about 6 times a year, rest of the time its single seated.
Best mod i have paid for.

The RG I bought came with the detachable hardware and Tour Pack. I think it's worth it. The Tour Pack is off 95% of the time, but when I need it, its easy to pop on.
