The "match" of your antennas can be checked with an "SWR" meter ( probably available through a Radio Shack store ) I don't believe that the shorty antennas available can be adjusted but I think that I remember reading that there was something your "play with" in the coax ( cable ) for the CB under the mat in the Tour Pak ... somebody jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong ... Do a search on the Forum ...

My antennae are both marked in raised lettering in the black plastic at he mount - hard to see but it's there - "AM/FM" on the left; "CB" on the right. Other than that, almost invisible, lettering, the two appear to be identical, though we know they're not.

OK...so let me show my ignorance here. Everyone says AM/FM on the left but if I take the liner out of the tour pak so I can see the cables the cable with the knurled coax connector (like my dad's old cb back in the day) is on the left (as I'm sitting on the bike). The AM/FM just has a slide together coax.
So...am I wrong about the cables or does the MOCO just place them on the side they want to on that day?

I had the same doubt about my radios as well. The connections that HD uses are just opposite of what you would expect if you had been exposed to the CB age. I traced the wires and found on both of my Ultra's that the FM was on the left. Follow your coax and the wire that runs into the box under the tourpak is the CB.

At first I thought the same thing, the larger setup in the tour pack must b a booster or something for he CB. I was wrong. I think all Harleys with sound systems come with the antenna mounted on he left. That's how I remember - some buddies had Street Glides and their antennae are on he left. By default CB goes on the right.

So teedubya - are you saying the shorties work fine with the tourpack on and a couple riders up? My local HD warned against switching to them from the whips when I had them do the quick detach for the tourpack for my 14 Ultra - said people had reception problems with the shorties.

CB Antenna is definitely located on the right side of the TP and the radio antenna is located on the left side of the TP when it left the factory. If you open up your TP and remove the liner it will expose the connections. You will also not a metal plate in the TP which the CB Antenna is grounded to. Just before the ground connection on the CB Coaxial Cable is a bayonet type connection. This connection has a habit of corroding and causes the CB to have poor TX & RX.

The Antennas are marked CB and AM/FM on the bottom on the Antenna, at least starting in 09 they were. There is also a 09 on the CB Antenna as it was changed after 08. 08 and before had coils built into them but starting in 09 the coils no longer are there.

Default Antennas

If you look at a Classic, it only has one antenna and it is one the l/h side of the tourpack, and it has no CB radio.

I tried different shorty antennas & didn't like them.
I caught the Boom shorties on sale Christmas &
bought them.They perform better & don't flop
around in the breeze like some of the cheap ones.

I had the HD shorties! Did not like them poor reception and made it easy to poke a eye out when looking in or loading the tour pack.
