Default Timer cover replacement

Is it a big deal to replace the timer cover on the 07 Ultra 96ci engines? I was reading some of the other posts for the 88ci engines and it seems it's just cosmetic and really doesn't cover anything. Is it still that way?

I believe it was on the MM efi bikes ('02 + earlier) that there actually was something under the timer cover. On the '03 and later, it's strickly cosmetic.......or a great place to hide stuff
