Default Increase Torgue

Hi gang. I have an 08 Ultra Classic. I want to get more torque as my wife and I ride together a lot. My service center is recommending Stage 1 air kit, EFI Super Tuner, True Dual, a 525 cam and Dyno Tune. They say they have done this for many bikes with many happy riders to increase the mid-range torque so when you want to get out and pass, it goes. I asked if they had gotten any complaints. He said only a couple and they were after completing this upgrade the rider still wanted more and ended up replacing the heads and increasing the cam. My concern is I may be one of the people and end up wishing I would have done more while they had it apart the first time. Looking for input. I am not looking for a drag bike, but I like it to go when I say go.

um true duals are generally not regarded as the best for torque and I question their suggestion of using those considering your stated desires

your headers are fine as they have no cat in them and will flow plenty of gasses to support a motor of over 100 HP.
Just choose some mufflers which provide more flow than the stock mufflers. you can choose loud or quiet hi flow mufflers, plenty of options

expect that you are at about 65 HP now, a 'stage 1" will get you 7 to 10 easy horsepower.

with the cams you will see further gains- cam choice will vary depending on where in the rpm range you want to see the power, and tuning and exhaust choice will be much dependent on the cam profiles

I would suggest that the Ness big sucker intake is under $120 shipped on ebay from easternpc
this would be the chrome backing plate version which better complements your motor vs the screaming eagle cast grey which is more expensive.

as for power greed- this is a balancing act and not only is your wallet on the line but driveability and MPG AND reliability

Did similar to mine in stages. Do some research on the cam. I installed a low end torque Andrews cam. Comes on at around 1700 and pulls to about 4800. Can't say for sure on the 4800 as I do not push my ride that hard. A mid or high end range cam is for folks who ride more aggressive than I do. I do mostly 2 up riding also, and am very happy with the low end pull. Comes on right after takeoff. This is very useful for my situation. Was not looking to win drag races or run 130 on the slabs.

I am assuming you have a 96CI...
Sounds like you have gave it a good shot with what you have added so far...I am not a expert
Maybe your tuner did not get a really good tune? Have you maybe got an option for another tuner to look at it?
I am wondering how much you and your wife weigh? No offense intended.
What about an estimate of your cargo weight.
If you are hauling your coin collection around, that could explain why you have no get up and go.

Actually they recommend 2 into 1 headers, the true dual was my decision as I like the look and the sound. I currently have Rush 2" slip on's that they said would work fine with the exhaust if I wanted true dual.

yeah- so what I am thinking ( and they too) is that the cams boost the torque...and then the 2/1 or the stock would complement that.

the true duals would not.

so you pay to add power ( cams) and then pay again to loose some of that power potential ( TD's).

stay with the stock headers and the rush's if you like them..they are paid for and should suit.

The service tech said this was a mid range cam that according to the graphs he was showing me was peak performance between 2000 and 4000 RPM's.

As for the weight, My wife and I are added about 400 lbs. I know how much I add for sure but I have to estimate when it comes to my wife. But, I would bet $10 I'm within 10 pounds. My bike does a good job now, I just want more punch on the 2 lane curvy roads when you get behind the car doing 20 mph through all the curves and 60 anytime there is an opportunity to pass.

that's when you wanna pull over for a minute and let them get away, rather than be all wound up and do something ill-considered

we've all been there and will again.

how you you think the squids feel when they come up on us.

Thanks for the advise. I always try to be considerate on the road, and if I am in a car I probably speed up on the straights as well. Besides, as bad as I think my bike is, them cars will just give you a beaten bad if you get tangled up with them. I just want to be able to get around and keep on keeping. I used to be a very aggressive drivers but somehow at my age I just don't get to uptight anymore. But I still like to kick it in the breeze and get on down the road at times.

If ya want true duals get true duals.Unless you go from some performance 2 into 1 exhaust I don't think you'd notice it.The guy that tunes mine is a good tuner and tunes alot of bikes he told me when I talked about true duals that the Rineharts tune really well for true duals and that you would not notice the difference in the seat of your pants.I agree on the look and sound.
