I have an 03 RG with the black face gauges. Am thinking about changing over to the silver face gauges that came standard on the newer bikes. Has anyone done this? It seems like its pretty easy.
The American Bagger magazine has an article on swapping gauges. In this case it's analog to digital gauges but the process should be very similar (page 100).
Hi Hawg03.It is an easy swap, just stay with the parts listed for 03 & down,as the connections on the guages changed in 04.part#74457-00 is for tach & speedo,74458-00a is for the small guage "4pack"& 74459-00 is for the install kit.I think msrp on just the tach & speedo is $399 but Zanottis or Surdyke discounts 20%
If you go with HD guages, I highly recommend Chicago HD ( http://www.chicagoharley.com/ ). I recently upgraded my speedo to the speedo/tach combination. Bought it online from Chicago HD and got 20% off. They also shipped the item already calibrated to my current mileage so it was a direct plug and play.
By the way, I think the aluminum spun guages on your color combo in a great choice.
