Default New Head Light bulb with Pictures

2011 Street Glide, 23,000 Miles, 15 months, and My headlamp is always on High and I rarely ride at night unless its to get home.
Last week the High beam burned out in the stock lamp, low still worked fine.
I ordered Philips 9003 XPS2 X-treme Power Headlight Bulb 2 pack $28.21 on Amazon.

So here are the two lamps.
Looking inside at the Quality or design, materials or construction, I can't see a difference why one would last longer than the other. The only noticeable difference is the old Stock HD lamp is a bit fatter than the Philips.

Now as far as the color output of the lamp.
The Stock H-D lamp has a heavy dark gray cover over the tip.
The Philips has a Chrome or mirror tip with a short collar of a sort of Blueish or purple color.

So I've read many post about the new H4 replacement lamps not lasting as long as the stock. All I'm saying is I cant see any reasons why that would be true based upon a side by side comparison.

HERE IS THE OLD LAMP

HERE IS THE NEW PHILIPS

As soon as My TV Shows are over I'll take a picture outside so see if there is any improvement.

My first thought was no real difference. These are not that blue color or the piercing white, just the same warm color as the the stock lamp.
Then I'm thinking these arent even as bright as I had before.
Remember I don't ride much at night and the last time I really wasn't being as critical as I am now.
Then I go for a spin down the street and back.
Again, Low beam nothing to write home about.
High Beam, now, I think this thing is brighter.

For the money, Its not going to matter.
See For yourself

LOW BEAM

HIGH BEAM

I haven't had good luck with bulbs in the past. I used an expensive PIAA for a while but it quickly burnt out. I believe that the vibrations of the bike took a toll on it.

Good luck with yours.

If you notice the end coating on the OEM bulb is thicker and not transparent. On the replacement bulb it is semi clear and thinner allowing more lumens through in a straight direction instead of diffusing. Some after market high output fog lamp bulbs, etc. are higher wattage than stock and have no end coating. I have a pair in my F150 and they are bright as hell and actually not legal for onroad applications in some States.
