I bought a set off ebay for my 2008 Road King Classic...the seller said they were for 2008 and older, but when I tried to put them on, they seem too long? In other words, when bolted around the saddlebag guard on the front, at the other end that mounts to rear of the saddlebag looks to be about an inch too long and won't line up with the bracket? Could these be for 2009 and newer....is the new frame longer in the back and thus the guards would be longer?

Mine where a little tricky to get on. Did the seller give you a part number for them or do you got a link to the auction you bought? If they were take off parts off his bike, I find it a little hard to believe he would have gotten the years that they fit wrong. Did you try putting them on rear first?
The seller wasn't an owner, it appears to be a small ebay parts store.....it was advertised with the 2008 and earlier part number, and came with the HD instructions for 2008 and ealier, but was not in original factory box, so I am wondering if they were mixed up. I thought I might try to go to a local dealer and see if they have a pair in inventory I could just compare against. I could send them back or just resell them, but want to eliminate the possibility that I am just stupid, but sure looks like too much metal to get it to line up....when I get it against the rear bracket, the angler on the front crash bar and its vertical position is way off.

Comparing them is probably your best bet. I specifically remember having to put some weight into mine to get them to fit but I agree an inch is a lot of bend. I can measure mine for you tomorrow.
There is a difference for Hard and Soft Bags. The guards are longer for hards bags....pretty sure! Sounds like a set of 09 and up. Really need the part # or a parts book.
I have a set of used ones I took off my 2007 Road King Classic (for hard leather covered bags, not standard bags). $100 plus shipping. No road rash. Can send you pics if interested.

There seems to be 3 different ones out there for the RKC according to Harley.
P/N 91179-10 claimed to fit 09 and later FLHRC
P/N 91179-09 claimed to fit 09 FLHRC (I THINK THIS ONLY FITS SOME 09's)
P/N 91265-98A claimed to fit 98-08 FLHRC
I have a set of pre 2009 nostalgic guard rails that I had on my 2005 with hard leather bags. I can try to get a measurement on them for you. Like mentioned earlier, there is a nostalgic set too for the hard bags and they are a little different than the leather bag rails.
