With my fingers I push up about 4 kgs force. I expect the belt to move 12 to 14 mm

for the FLHX it should be about 8 mm

For touring bikes: with bike on jiffy stand, no rider or luggage and 10 psi in rear shocks, apply 10lbs of upward pressure on the belt at mid point and it should flex 1/4 - 5/16".
With rear wheel off the ground, same pressure on belt, it should flex 3/16 - 1/4".
Ya don't want to rely on the method of twisting the belt 90 degrees. Some weak fingered guys can't twist it that far when its laying on the work bench while others can twist it all the way around when its under proper tension.

Sometime after a ride on a 90+degree day, check the 1/4" setting. I will be fiddle string taught. I set a click looser nowadays.

HD came out with a bulletin a while back for more deflection in belt tension, don't remember for sure but think they now say up to 9/16" deflection, at least on touring models.

Motion Pro makes a tool called a Tension Gauge (check Amazon.com, they're around $22.00/ea.) made specifically to measure the amount of deflection required. I bought one and have used it on numerous bikes. Works well.

Do the gage. Do not flex, push till it's tight, shake, blow and any variation of all that. If you price the belt, pulleys, inner primary bearing, transmission main gear bearing and labor, that $15-$25 is the only way. A belt change is a big deal of parts laying in floor just to get to it. You also need to read manual since they are different. A Softail changes slightly when loaded, so I lay over seat. The Dynas and Cruisers are checked with nothing on seat I think. Got an extra gage on Amazon. (Needed a loaner) Motion Pro just like Ken said. Must have been a special sale because I only paid about 1/2 of what Harley wants. Exactly like my Harley one.
