Default best tuner

Hello. I am new to this site. I was wondering if i could get some advice. I have a 2012 street glide 103. I am in the process of putting a vance and hines power dual head pipe and CFR mufflers on my bike. Also i am installing a screamin eagle heavy breather. I wanted to know what kind of tuner would be best suited for my needs. I don't plan on ever doing much else to the motor, but you never know. Everyone says to buy a Thundermax, but $1000 is hard to spend when there are many others for alot less. Just curious what everyone else is using?? thanks

I use nightrider.com xieds.

$100

for my stage 1 motor they work great.

IF I were to do heads or cams, Thundermax would probably be my choice.

welcome to the forums

If you are a "gadget guy" and like to tinker and tweak, Power Vision is a good choice.

Seriously though.. Do some more reading on this forum and look at threads that ACTUALLY talk about how to tune and tweak using different tuners. Choose your pain level and then go for it.

The Vance & Hines pipes are known to have O2 sensor fitting problems. Mostly, the bungs are too long and don't allow the O2 sensors to properly sample the exhaust stream. Before installing, measure them and make sure your's are within specs or you'll have problems.

The "best" tuner or tuning device is so subjective that most will no longer give recommendations.

It will be solely up to you as to how much you want to get involved with the whole tuning topic and what you want from your bike.

There are devices that simply "trick" the bike's computer forcing it to perform in ways it wasn't intended up to full-featured programs that give you access to a whole host of tuning tables within the ECM.

Unless you must have a tuner installed right away, I'd suggest you take a considerable amount of time and become somewhat educated on tuning the HD system. That way you can make an informed decision and also tell when someone is just blowing smoke (like eveyone telling you to buy a ThunderMax - they just aren't really that popular) or giving completely wrong information (sometimes mistakenly and other times intentionally).

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

You'll get a lot of different opinions here. TTS, sertpro, dynovision in that order is mine. The most omportant thing is to find the right guy to tune it if you decide to have it dyno tuned. Lots of bad tuners out there.

I believe dynovision has a deal where you can buy the licence fee to use your dynotuners tuner for 150. Another 300 bucks for the tune and you could be done for under 500 bucks

Power Vision. It doubles as a engine scanner and you can view what all the sensors are reading. This week I had a choppy throttle issue while ridding down the road with no codes but after viewing the throttle % at idle bouncing around I just had to replace the TSP. FWIW.

I've had quite a few, TTS, DTT and now PV. BY far PV is the easiest for the DIYer, and my scoot has never ran better. But like someone said, you will get more conflicting info by asking as it's hard for someone to admit that whatever it is they bought is not the best, if you know what I mean.

when i bought my 2011 streetglide I had the dealer install Rhinehart 4 inch tru duals, screamin eagle hi intake and a race tuner and set it all up. I have not had any issues and am happy with how it turned out.

I can not say what is best. I needed something, do not want to tune and tinker any more (I have no problem rebuilding 6 carbs/synching and adjusting 24 valves) , do not want to depend on a dyno or someone else to make it run. I plan on making changes. This is my first HD, put a ThunderMax in and am riding. around $1700 total was TMax autotune, true duals and mufflers

when most say they are happy, ask, is that after another $$ dyno tune?, worse yet, after someone else handled your bike.
