I always wondered why they say to use an allen wrench and turn lightly until you feel resistance....its a lot easier to find the resistance spot turning it with just your bare fingers. I just use an open end wrench and give it a little tap with a hammer to tighten it.

important tip-- if you can not turn it with your fingers, chances are the factory(or dealer prep) cross threaded the adjuster plate. Finally at 7000 miles, a new adjuster plate, SE spring and Barnett plates I have a clutch that grabs as it should.

Nothing to it...

Loosen the cable at the adjustment nut (about mid way down the cable) to get plenty of slack in the cable.

Remove the primary cover.

Loosen the nut.

Back out the threaded rod with your fingers.

Turn in the threaded rod with your fingers until you feel slight resistance.

Back the threaded rod out 1/2 turn.

Hold the threaded rod in place with an Allen wrench as you tighten the nut.

Put the primary cover back on. HD recommends a new gasket each time the cover is removed. The manual gives you a bolt tightening sequence.

Adjust the cable so there is about 1/8" play in the clutch lever at the handel bar. Your are done.
