Default Caution on parking your ride!!

I have read several threads on the subject of parking. Park in gear vs park in nuetral, park with start/stop switch on or off, using the ignition switch to turn off versus using the start/stop on/off switch. I have read these post always thinking none of it made a big difference. My experience this week end taught me different.

Not to go into to much detail let me just say, if a guy parks his bike in gear with the start/stop on/off switch left in the on or start position in his garage. Then the same guy goes into garage and turns the ignition switch on to listen to the radio while loading his tour pack. It is possible the actual starter push button may short out and the bike will start up by itself. Being in gear it will most likely start driving itself around the garage with same said guy hanging on to the handlebars trying to steer around other items in the garage, including his brothers 2011 Electra Glide Ultra Classic, trying to find a way to kill the silly thing. Now if that guy is extremely lucky he will not hit anything but a few walls and maybe a tool box or two with very minimal damage to bike, self or other objects which may be laying around. But he would have to be EXTREMELY lucky.

Just sayin......I will forever more park my bike in neutral with the on/off switch in the off position.

I always turn mine off with the on/off switch, then the ignition switch. Just a habit I got into from day one.

My bike won't start in gear unless the clutch is pulled in.
That only took me about 20 agonizing minutes to figure out one time. I didn't know it was in gear. I never leave it in gear in the garage.

Hmmmmmm... I don't know about "this guys" bike, but my bike will stall if it is in gear and no throttle is added. I park in gear always (same thing I learned driving a manual car), but I also use my killswitch like the manual for my bike states to use. But even if something fell, hit the switch to run and then the starter switch shorted when I was loading something in a tourpak, seeings how I don't have my hand on the throttle AND clutch, the bike should do nothing more than grind the starter and clutch plates. But that's just my bike... Now, if maybe "this guy" was showing off a bit, revving his engine, while in gear, slipped the clutch, THEN I can imagine a fun, butthole puckering ride around the garage. There are tons on YouTube.

wish you had a security camera in your garage! That would have been a good one to catch on video!

I know the older bikes would start regardless of gear selection or clutch position. But the new 2011 in my garage wont start in gear unles the clutch is engaged.

I think there is more to this OP thats not told.
