Can anyone tell me where I can buy decals that go under the clearcoat? I know that the proper decals for this are thinner than the average decal. Any ideas, please let me know as I want to get them installed & painted this winter.. TIA!!
I have purchased and clearcoated many decals on harley tanks without looking for special thinner options. Word of caution, do not spray too thick in early clear coats as this will dissolve the adhesive and the edge will lift when using non-water based materials.
I have sprayed clear over decals from harleys to trash cans lol.. Just about all vinyl works, just go slow with the clear so it doesnt soak into the decal and loosen up the adhesive.
I just bought some old stock 1990 decals for my ole Glide. What are you looking for? If they are genuine Harley ones they are either available from a dealer, or with a patient search for old stock. Failing that there are also painters out there who can work wonders in paint direct onto your tank.
I am getting my fairing painted this winter & I want to have the bar & shield logo in the center. That being said, I don't think HD has a stock one that size in there catalog but I haven't made it to the dealer yet to check. I've always been told that a standard decal is thicker than the ones they make that go under the clear coat

I suggest you ignore what you've been told! Standard decals used on production bikes are all intended to go under clearcoat and are very thin. I have a pair right here. Stickers intended for other uses are undeniably thicker than decals.
What size of bar and shield would you like? The great encyclopedia and parts catalogue which is HDF may be able to help!
I have a standard tank decal for my 1990 model year on my batwing, which looks just great, as an alternative idea.
