Default Service record

A friend just bought a used 2011 Limited with some of the original warranty left. He is thinking about going for the extended warranty, so I suggested that he get the service record for the bike from the dealer to see if it had any warranty or service issues with the prior owner. Looking back at it I know we should have asked for the service records before he bought the bike, but it's too late for that now. The dealer he bought it from is not the original dealer that sold the bike when it was new. The dealer says that Harley uses a couple of different systems for service records, and they can't pull up all the service records by VIN even if they were done by a Harley dealer.

That just doesn't seem right to me. Does anyone know if any Harley dealer can pull up service records using the VIN for any Harley serviced bike? Thanks all -

Contact the original dealer. You should have received the owners handbook and paper service record from the dealer you bought from, unless the bike has a very low mileage and hasn't been serviced due to that.

You would probably only get that info from the dealer that did the work. It would be in their records.....and they would want to know the name of the original owner.

Not true, we bought my wife an 05 1200 Sportster from an individual who was the 2nd owner. Bike was sold in Florida new. Called a local dealer here in Kansas. They knew everything about the bike, including that it was lowered and all the things the original owner added at delivery by the selling dealer and all the service records.
