I can't see how the real CFR's are any different. I looked at them and they look the same inside. Just straight through with packing along the sides.
Well that general description applies to almost any muffler on the market. Just because they appear the same from a basic look over doesn't imply they are equal. Apart from copying the design to virtually eliminate R&D costs, the cheaper price usually comes from poorer materials, welds, fasteners, chroming, etc. Not always the case, but rarely do you see knock off items exceeding the quality of their copied counterpart.
My experience has usually been you get what you pay for. If they end up working out for you and meet your expectations, good on ya.
I bought my CFRs this past June and put them on a stock bike. Seat of the pants, I didn't notice any loss or gain. Since adding an air cleaner and tuner the bike does have more noticeable power, but I was more focused on getting rid of the lean condition from the factory.
What about performance with the CFR's? I know the sound is great, but any noticable performance improvements or unimproved?
I couldn't really tell any difference in performance on my bike, which is stock, which is fine as I am happy with mine the way it is,just wanted better sound.I will say the chrome scratches pretty easy though. To me,I haven't heard any other mufflers I like as well as these,I'm even thinking on going ahead and buying another set so I know I will have them for my next bike just in case they get hard to get or jack the price up on them in the future.

+1
I put them on my 103" and couldn't feel any loss in the bottom end.
Can certainly hear the difference though compared to oem. St Paul HD has them for $529 or $480 something with MVP, but when looking at the SE or a few others, by the time you buy the end caps, your beyond that.
They had a pretty trick SG setting on the show room floor with them on, so I got to hear them 1st hand before purchase, and they sound like they belong there (on an HD).
The floor salesman said "wait until you get rid of the cat", and after gutting last weekend he was right. They do rumble.
Will see next spring when the SE air cleaner and Woods 222 cams go in how they are for tuning.
I love the sound too but I only heard them on You Tube. For those that have them would you consider them loud? Too loud? I'm replacing my existing Rhinehart Knock offs that have become real load since install cams. I like the low rumble of the CFR's but I'm hoping they are not too loud

They probably wont be any quieter than what you have, but it's a different loud,a lower, deeper tone.My first ride with them I thought to myself I'm not to sure about this, but after the initial ride they didn't seem too loud at all, just had to get used to them.I wouldn't have anything else now,I think you will like them.
Just rode into work today. Finally was able to experience the sound while on the freeway.During cruising speed, 60-75mpg, the sound isn't bad, still can hear my stock radio. Nice level sound. But when you roll throttle, people will definitely hear you coming/going. Great deep rumble to them. Much better than the Cobra's I had. I did notice slight decel popping. Didn't notice any loss in tq/hp on butt dyno but getting it dynoed tomorrow and will try and post the dyno sheet. My buddy has Stage 1 AC, V&H power pipe, power duals and cams on his 09 SG and his sounds a bit louder than mine but still sounds awesome. I'm very happy with my purchase,no regrets.
