I did it 1 1/2 years ago......Don't do it. Unless you are into working weekends and holidays waiting on your riding friends hand and foot.

What dealer?

I would have taken it, been out of work for a spell and it sucks.
Rather work where I can enjoy V- twins and those that ride them.

Then people on here would be directly talking to you when they say they went to there "stealer" today. Hahahaha Seriously though,i did it for a little over a year, no real money to speak of, the discount on parts and apparel was nice but working every freakin weekend sucked. Im glad i was offered a different occupation recently.

Hit it right on the head! I did it full time many years ago because I needed a job and it was a cool thing to do for a while, but I got out as soon as I could get another job for more money and weekends off. I still did it several times, part time, to get discounts for rebuilds, etc., usually started in the early fall, then quit during early summer. The year I built my shovel for my Alaska trip I worked straight through for 19 months to get everything done and paid for. That summer sucked, but the next year trip to the north made it worth it.

Actually, I'm kinda jealous. I have apps in to a couple local dealers for a parts/accessories job for when I retire. Nothing happening yet and I don't expect it to now being end of riding season in WI...

If you are a motorhead, love building Horse Power, performance and such, serving the public would be a bore, but, if you love people, have lots of patience, love educating the masses, and love to teach others, might be rewarding. Some customers, just want to be waited on "hand & foot", not interested in learning, they can be just riders, others, interested in engine mechanics, performance, new products, can be fun to talk to. Smaller shops, dealers, don't even carry insurance on their employees, than can be costly, if you need it. If you are good, they will seek you out, they must have thought you would make a good hand.

If you need a job it would be fine. No way would I change jobs to work parts or service manager at a dealership. To many azzhole customers.
I'm friendly with my local shop and hang out more than I should (but I'm retired and it keeps me out of bars in the middle of the day) so I see a lot of unbelievable crap they have to put up with.
