Default exhaust question

Ok so I have a hopefully simple question. I just scored a set of v/h monster ovals and the 2-1-2 power duals and will be putting them on my 12 electra limited.

The question is, if I put both both of them on the bike (I know the answer is no if I just put the slip ons ) but do I need to do a download or tuning because ill be removing the cats?
Eventually I want to put the ventilator on there and that I know needs a tuning of some form sert..or pcv.

Thanks

Yes you will need to remap with new headers as well as AC. The A/F ratios will require adjustment.

For new pipes, front to back no matter what they are you DO NOT need to remap. The ECM will cope. Add the air cleaner too, you're fine. Anything more than that and you will need a new map.

There you have it - one says "yes" and one says "no". What to do?? I'll tell ya what my thoughts are - FWIW. If it was me ( I know, it ain't), I would install the slip-ons for now. When you get the $$$ to purchase the air cleaner and buy a tuner, then install the header, A/C, tuner and re-install the slip-ons. When that's done, have it dynoed - then you know it's right.

That's what I did and it worked out well for me. But it's your call. Good luck.

Agreed! you can't really go wrong doing that. A variation on that suggestion would be to get the tuner (and the a/c as well while your at it) from Fuel Moto with one of their maps pre-installed for your set-up. That will get you 90% of the way there, and you can do the dyno at a later date to dial it in the rest of the way when you have the $$ for it. Doing it that way will at least save you the $$ for the dyno now and keeps you from having to install the Monster Ovals twice.

Either way you will do right by your bike.

thanks for all the recommendations! so basically what i am getting here is, i can put the S/O on now and i really should think about at least a tuner with the headers and maybe just bite the bullet and do the A/C all at the same time. which is kinda what i was thinking i would need to do.
Hey VT i see you have the mustang super touring seat, how do you like that? been thinking about doing either that or the regular touring seat but heated ( the oL wants the heat)

Love the seat...way better than the stock seat. Not a negative but one thing I will warn you is that the seat does move you back maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the stock seat, so if you are at the limit of where you want to be right now its something to consider. I made the decision to change out my bars after riding it for a couple of hundred miles, but I am glad I did because the combination of the seat and bars made this an all-day bike.

You should do the slipons and the AC at the same time. The stock AC is very restricted, you need to open both ends. And you do not need a tuner just because you let it breath. If that is all you are going to do then you should try the Xieds OldPhat mentioned, they work very well and only cost about $100 or so. Give Steve a call at Nightrider an talk to him about it. If all you want to do is change the sound a little then just do the slipons and don't worry about anything else. Personally I'm not into tweeking on the bike all the time, I just want it to run and sound good. If I had it to do all over again I would save myself several hundred dollars and get the AC, slipons and Xied's and nothing more. How much do you want to spend, how much do you want to work on it?
