Buy a quick disconnect from HERKO, I think he's on e-bay. Good luck.

You don't need dynamite, just the fuse.

Do a search on this forum. It has been addressed before...

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-07-ultra.html

Found this on google.

Remove seat, remove console on top of tank, disconnect wiring from console to tank, disconnect vent line if present, disconnect fuel line on tank, disconnect fuel gauge (up under tank on left side, 3 wires, 4 wire connector, wires are yellow, orange, and black), remove bolt at rear of tank, remove two side bolts up front under tank (coil bracket is there also, carefully cut clamp on cross over hose located up front under tank.
This works better with three hands remove one side of cross over hose, fuel will flow freely so the extra hands are good at "plugging" the hose and the tank. Gently remove tank tilting front of tank as much as you can till you get it clear of the frame, while still tilted at a steep angle put the cross over hose back on.
To make things easier drain all fuel out of tank before reversing the process to reinstall tank. Hope this helps.

I took mine off about a month ago to properly route my GPS cable. It was really easy. You don't have to drain it or anything. The hardest part, and this is no $hit, was getting the overflow tube routed back the original way down through the frame and stuff.

From memory:

Remove the seat.

At the bottom of the tank there is two bolts to remove.

At the front lower are of the tank there is two more bolts.

On front of my console there was one or two screws.

Remove fuel line. Mine came from the factory with a quick disconnect. You basically just push the slip ring up and the line pops right out with no mess.

Once the console is off just lift the tank off.

It was surprisingly easy even though I had never done it before and I didn't have a manual.

His is an '06, so it would be slightly different than yours? There should only be the 2 bolts on the neck, and one toward the seat that is exposed once the seat is removed. The quick disconnect the others refer to, is replacing the stock crossover line, with a quick disconnect fuel line that wraps around the neck connecting the 2 nipples from the bottom of the tank.

When I removed the stock crossover line, I used 2 small needle nose vise-grips to crimp the line, then cut it in between the vise-grips. I prefer to siphon out as much fuel as possible, it just makes it easier. I also use a 2'x2' foam block and just set it where the seat was, and simply rotate the tank back-wards, and set it on the foam.

You really can't screw it up. The only pain is if fuel dumps out, so make sure you're somewhere where if fuel does spill, it's not a big deal.

I'm riding an 07 UC and my project this weekend is to install a Road Tech GPS in my ride. Like DMorr99, I need to get under the tank to run the power cable along the center rail.

If you drained the tank, removed the console, and unbolted the tank, could you lift the tank up far enough to tie down the GPS power cable without having to screw with the crossover line?

Right now i have my power cable for my heated grips running under the tank. What i did was put a spacer under the rear mounting bolt to the tank to keep it up alittle so the cable wouldn't get pinched. I check it with the seat and everything still looks good angle wise.. But this is why i'm thinking about removing the tank and tucking the wire in better.
Thanks for the guys that gave me the info i needed

when you pull the x-over line, keep it up (like a beer bong) and put your thumb over the end. lift the front of the tank above the frame then reconnect the x-over and you should have minimal fuel spillage.

it helps to have another set of hands
