Default Power Commander III vs Power Vision???

I've finalized my choice for a FM 107, Woods TW-777 build in my 08' FLHX. I currently have installed Rinehart true duals, hi flow air cleaner and PC III. Any real seat of the pants, real HP / TQ gains with the latest Power Vision vs my ol' trusty PC III?? I'm kinda partial to the PC III as it works... and has flawlessly since Sept 2007 when I bought my bike and PC III.

I don't ride at sea level one day and 14,000' the next...therefore my thought is I dont need a management system that "auto tunes" a bazillion times a day. I'm basic, ol' school...and ...... old. Then again, I'm the geezer' that reallllly thought he needed a carburetor not fuel injection too, lol. Help the ol' gray haired guy out...PC III or PV??

Fuel Moto should have a good map for your PC III, I'd say try that first & see how you like it, you can always go to a PV later. The PV is a much better tuner but there's nothing wrong with PCs, if it does what you want you've saved about $450. If you plan to get it dyno tuned to get the last few HP then you best go with the PV.

well, the pv doesn't do that either. it does have an 'auto tune' function, but that is really a misnomer. the tune is not altered unless you follow a set procedure.

the really great thing about the powervision is that it is a flash based tuner, so there is not extra add on box, and the display unit will function as a gauge set, or a code reader. or you can just flash your ecm, disconnect the pv unit and ride with no worries.

my choice would be to utilize fuelmoto's trade in program and get $150 off of the powervision with your pciii. but you might want to jump on that quick, that ends 12/31.

No, not if the PCIII is mapped properly. FM will have a map for your 107 upgrade and I would go with that. The concept that I submit to you is that if you have a good tuner, keep it unless you have a compelling need to move to another type. I don't think you need to in this case.

Even without O2 sensors you have decent control of AFRs with even with extreme elevation changes. The MAP sensor regulates this and in my experience does a remarkable job.

The PV is a flash-based tuner that changes parameters in the ECM directly--while the PCIII works downstream of the ECM to intercept and change the signals on the way to the destination (injectors and coil). In terms of basic control of AFR and spark advance either will do the job.

Interesting. I had a similar conversation with Don @ FM the other day (great guy BTW). I had a PC III on my '04 FX and never had a problem with it. Pretty much set and forget. And once I had the intake and exhaust done, no chagner were made or planned. I rode it like that for 8 years of troublefree miles. And I was thinking along the same lines with the FL, but I was gonna get the FM version of the PC.
But this FL is a bit different, at least to me. More weight to haul and more ways to change it. I figure I can vary the weight of the bike by around 250lbs or so by removing the TP, the wife, and her "necessities". And I can leave sea level in the morning and be at 6000 feet above by evening.

And though I have no engine mods now, there will be. And I wanted that simple plug and play to be able to account for my riding style and mechanics now AND in the future. I was interested in the PV with Autotune, but the PV requires input and interface with me making decisions. I really didn't want that much involvement. So I went with the PCV with autotune. Just like the PC III it needs nothing from me, but I feel like this will give me everything from the old TC 88 I can get. And with whatever future changes, the PCV autotune will take everything into account and adjust itself accordingly.

From what I've been told, this is the next best thing to living next door to a tuner/dyno. Don and FM are great guys, but I went with MGS because I preferred their exhaust. FM doesn't really offer their own 2-1-2 system with O2 bungs for an '06. Theirs is the 2-1, which is what I am removing.

Anyway....certainly not the cheapest route. But for me this is a once and done with hopefullly, no regrets. We'll see down the road.

Keep your PClll, Save $100.00 and instead of the PV get it dynoed by Jamie. It will be as good as it will ever get for your particular bike an build.

PV hands down. I went the route of the X-pipe, PV and auto tune. I cannot believe how well my bike runs.

The x-pipe gives me the ability to run the narrow band O2 sensors and the wide band that came with the auto tune.

I tried the VH Fuel Pak, Thundermax and TTS. Again, in my experience, PV hands down.
