Got one for wife's Street Glide 2 weeks ago and just opened the box. Was very surprised to see it's plastic. Thinking about taking it back.
That's funny (thinking outloud),
I know when I bought my first HD, coming from Jap bikes, it did help ease the pain of the high priced parts to learn most were metal. On my rice burners, everything was plastic. It doesn't sting quite as badly when they are metal.
Well done chromed plastic can be fine just as crappy chromed metal is junk. I have had Yamaha and Kawasaki with some chromed plastic that looked good as new several years later when I sold. Course I take care of my stuff, keep in it a garage, and don't live near the coast.
There are lots of plastic parts on a new HD. Side covers, saddle bags, tourpak, fairing to start. Can you imagine what this 900 pound bike would weigh if those parts were metal?
I had looked at the light too. But everyone I saw in the box was already peeling at the corners. I looked at probably a dozen at different dealers. Too bad, I thought it was a cool light add on.
